TECHNICAL THEATRE

theatre2The Varsity Technical Theatre Class (3-4) is responsible for the technical production of the 7 shows produced by Westside High School throughout the year.  Members of this class MUST work each of these shows in a variety of capacities ranging from stage management, set construction, lighting and sound operation and design, backstage running crews and house management.  Members of this elite group of technicians will also be offered the opportunity to work and manage many of the other performances held on the WHS stages.  They will also be given the opportunity to submit designs for the UIL Technical Theatre design competition in November.

The Junior Varsity Technical Theatre Class (2) is responsible for crewing the technical productions of the 7 shows produced by Westside High School throughout the year.  Members of this class are encouraged to work each of these shows in a variety of capacities ranging from stage management, set construction, lighting and sound operation and design, backstage running crews and house management.

PREREQUISITES FOR TECHNICAL THEATRE

Varsity Technical Theatre is open to all students who have had 2 years of Theatre at Westside High School.  It is highly suggested that students complete JV Technical Theatre before taking on these responsibilities. 

Junior Varsity Technical Theatre is open to all students who have had 1 year of Theatre at Westside High School.  It is highly suggested that students complete Technical Theatre 1 before taking on these responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS

If a student is a member of the Varsity Technical Theatre Class, he/she will be required to remit a materials fee.  This covers the company polo-shirt, a Technical Theatre backstage T-shirt, a tool box, gloves and other Technical Theatre safety equipment.   Due to fluctuating costs, this fee will be determined during the summer but generally runs around $100.

All students enrolled in JV Technical Theatre will be encouraged to participate in crews for the 7-9 theatrical productions throughout the school year. 
All students MUST attend and review a theatrical production outside of WHS in each grading period.

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE

Westside High School produces 7-9 productions annually.  A production schedule will be available soon for the coming year with dates of all the WHS performances.
