MAGNET FOR INTEGRATED TECHNOLOGY

THE PROGRAM

M.I.T. students participate in a multifaceted technology program in fine arts, business, applied science/health professions, communication media or information technology systems while completing a comprehensive college-preparatory program of academics.

THE FIVE STRANDS AND COURSES

Freshmen year, all students will take "Technology Systems," a modular course that introduces the students to the five strands of our program. The second year, students will be asked to choose one of the five strands on which to focus their elective courses. They must take one Magnet elective course each year.

The strands are Fine Arts, Business, Applied Science/Health Professions, Communication Media, and Information Technology. Below are links for the currently suggested courses for each strand along with Magnet Course Descriptions:

Please refer to our course catalog for Magnet Course Descriptions

As a result of Hurricane Ike, the traditional district-wide Magnet recruiting schedule for school year 2009-2010 is being modified as indicated above.  Starting later will allow all schools to completely recover from Hurricane Ike before Magnet Awareness Week and allow families more time before they have to start making decisions about choosing a Magnet program for school year 2009-2010.

MAGNET TRANSPORTATION

HISD is considering changes with regard to transportation of students to Magnet schools for the 2009-2010 school year. Because of our location within the district, the proposals being considered will impact many Westside Magnet students. Please take a moment to read the Magnet Transportation Overview. HISD is holding Community meetings as noted below to gather input. You may also send your thoughts on the subject to CoS@houstonisd.org.
