Parent and Student Volunteers

We really need your help!!

Many areas of our school need additional volunteer help so that the first few weeks will run more efficiently. Parents, guardians, grandparents, and students needing service hours are encouraged to participate in our VIPS (Volunteers in Public Schools) program. Your school needs volunteers in the following areas:

First Day Packet Assembly – Several volunteers are needed to assemble first day packets at the school the week of August 20 th. Contact Judy Thompson at hmthot@hotmail.com or 281-752-7601.

Registration – The Registrars office needs volunteers August 7 th, 8 th, and 9 th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the week of August 27 th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to help greet and direct new students and parents. Contact Caroline Stento at cstento@houstonisd.org.

Freshman Orientation – 25 volunteers are needed at this event from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. August 17 th. A mandatory one hour training session will be held on August 15 th at 3:30 p.m. Volunteers should be familiar with Westside, have had an HISD background check last year, and be comfortable leading up to 25 students through the orientation process.

Two parents are also needed to assist in issuing I.D. badges to freshmen on August 16 th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Contact Gary Birchfield at gbirchfield@houston.rr.com or 281-496-5030 .

Welcome Desk – An excellent way to get to know the school is to volunteer a two hour shift at the welcome desk. Help is needed the weeks of August 20 th .and 27 th from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. You will greet visitors and give directions. Training is provided, so new volunteers are welcome. Bookroom – Volunteers are needed to help distribute textbooks in the afternoons during orientations on August 13 th, 17 th 20 th, and 21 st. Volunteers are also needed for the first several weeks of school during school hours. Contact Debbie Schroen at dschroen@houstonisd.org.

Attendance Office - Assistance is needed tabulating attendance from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and taking I.D. badge photos all day during the weeks of August 27 th and September 2 nd. Contact Alma Douwaji at adouwagi@houstonisd.org. or 281-920-8000 x8006.

Back to School Bash – This is a Westside High School tradition and we need help with decorations, set up, food and drink service, and clean up on the evening of August 24 th. Contact Gary Birchfield at gbirchfield@houston.rr.com or 281-496-5030 .

Library – The library can always use additional volunteers. Contact Steve Harrison at sharris2@houstonisd.org.

You can also check out the Westside High School Website at www.westsidewolves.org. to keep informed and look for updated volunteer opportunities. Please help your school get better each year by volunteering when you can.
