I. General Information:

  • The library is located in L100.
  • Copies are .10 each.
  • Printing from the computers is available for .10 per page. Do NOT press the printer icon. Instead, go to file and print, then select the number of pages that you would like to print. Patrons are responsible for all pages printed.
  • ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE A SIGNED LIBRARY PASS TO ENTER THE LIBRARY AT ANY TIME!  A pass is good for 30 minutes.
  • No FOOD or DRINKS in the library (Including GUM or CANDY).

II. Check In/Out Procedures:

The following rules apply to students only:

  • Three books may be checked out for two weeks.
  • Books may be renewed once.
  • Overdue books have a fine rate of .10 per day.
  • No books may be checked out if you have any overdue books or outstanding fines.
  • ID badges are required for book checkout.

Teachers follow these guidelines:

·        You may check out up to 10 books AND 2 videos at one time.

  • Please adhere to the two-week timeline for returning books and videos.
  • If you have finished with WHS Library materials sooner that the two-week period, please return ASAP, so that others may utilize the items.
  • AV equipment check-out is available through the library. There is a sign-up sheet on the right side of the charging desk. Give at least 24-hour notice. Equipment is available on a first come basis. Return equipment at the end of each day.

III. Library Usage Guidelines:

  • Teachers may bring their class to the library during the second half of a given period.  Teachers may not sign up for more than six library visits during a four week period. The classroom sign-up sheet is located on the right side of the blue charging desk. Due to the lack of computers, only one class may reserve the library during any given time slot.  Remember that many students use the library at any given time, so computer use may be limited. Student DISCIPLINE is the responsibility of the teacher while his/her class is present. Help us maintain a quiet, user-friendly environment.
  • Teachers may send NO MORE THAN FIVE students with an official library pass to the library at one time. Passes for individual students are accepted the first 30 minutes of each period and are valid for 30 minutes.  Students with passes may be asked to return to class if the library is at capacity.  Passes need to be signed by the sending teacher, dated, timed and a clearly stated reason for the visit written on the pass.  Please require that students have the library staff note the departure time on the pass.
  • Ask for a map of the library if you need help locating any items.
  • All computers in the library have the WHS Library OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalog) available for searching the library.
  • If there is a title/author not available in the WHS collection, write the name of the title or author on a piece of paper or e-mail the library at sharris2@houstonisd.org), and we will attempt to order the item.

IV. Computer/Internet Use:

  • Only 2 students per computer
  • Volume on computers should be muted (unless personal headphones are available).
  • No Instant Messaging (IM) or game playing during the instructional day.  Computers are to be used for educational purposes.
  • Students are responsible for the appropriateness of their internet browsing and downloading.

V. Rules/Consequences for Students: (Teachers-please help us enforce these rules)

  • We have only one rule in the library-"RESPECT" EVERYONE, and ALL MATERIALS.
  • Consequences include a verbal or written warning, phone call to parents, or loss of library privileges.
