Introduction to Photoshop

Learn the toolbox.  Review the toolbox overview (laminated sheet).  Locate each tool listed.

 

Steps to go through BEFORE created a Photoshop Document:

  1. Reset Workspace to default (upper right hand corner on screen)
  2. Reset ALL tools.  (right lick on tool menu and select the second option)
  3. Us the OS mode when saving.
  4. If a selection is not highlighted, you should select the move tool (top tool).  This often releases the menu and will allow you to complete the step.
  5. Tools are hidden underneath each other.  If you right click on a tool that has a small triangle, you can see the other tool options.
  6. Hover the mouse over a tool and the name of it appears.
  7. The Save for the Web option is under the file menu.  JPG and GIF are found in the dropdown menu after you select this option.  JPEG and JPG are the same.  (We use JPG in class.)

Red Sea was to be completed in class on Tuesday, 11/3 for a grade.  You must complete this by the end of lunch on Monday, Nov 9.  Tutorials are moved to Monday due to grades!

Design/FTP Major Test

  • review the design worksheet covered in class last week. The answer key is in the @pickup folder.
  • practice FTP using the instruction found in the design section of the web site. (go back to last section)

TAKE the Design/FTP test found in Quizstar.

When you have completed your test, you are required to make all test corrections. The corrections should be done on a sheet of notebook paper. Write the question, then the answer, or answer in a complete sentence.

Introduction to Photoshop --work through the first tutorials to become familiar with all tools.

Written assignment
: Write a creative story about the life of your mutant. The story should be imaginative and give creative background information on your unusual creature. Make the story fun and interesting. This should be written in class today on the yellow sheet provided. Check spelling and proof read. Put your name and period at the top of the document. Turn in at the end of class.

  1. open a browser window, right click to view source to open notepad.
  2. open the mutant.html file found in the @pickup folder.
  3. read the contents. You will replace the text in this document with the text from your mutant.doc file. You can change the title and the header if you wish.
  4. look at the image link. You mutant.jpg should be visible. If the dimensions are not correct, then you probably did not follow the size requirements in the handout. Please check.
  5. save file as index.html to your classwork/mutant folder.

  1. Open your folder on the student server. Resize to half screen and move to the RIGHT side of the screen. This is your local site.
  2. Open IE6. Resize to half screen and move tot he LEFT side of screen. This is your remote site.
  3. Type ftp://whstech.com in the address bar.
  4. Type (your folder)@whstech.com in the User name blank. (see below)
    Use your student server password.
  5. Right click on web folder on the remote server (left side) and rename to first.
  6. Move the mutant folder from the local server to remote by dragging with the mouse while holding the left mouse button down.
