As a charter member of the Coalition of Essential Schools, a nation-wide reform movement committed to restructuring schools, Westbury High School continuously updates its academic and social structures guided by ten governing principles of the Coalition. Westbury also participates in “Schools for a New Society”, the HISD high school network of comprehensive high schools that qualify for planning and implementation funding through the Carnegie/Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In this century of technology-driven markets, our students must be prepared to survive economically, skillfully, socially, and artistically in order to compete in today’s global society. The primary focus on improved teaching and learning, the monitoring of accountability for all staff members, and the solicitation of community support and business partnerships all serve to benefit our students' opportunities to excel.

Current trends in school reform, including a focused look at how the research predicts outcomes for success, are important study foci that address twenty-first century preparation of students for careers. A renewed focus on instructional delivery supports the implementation of strategies that reflect the best practices for successful public and urban education.
