2008
Valedictorian Phillip Pierott Makes History

Pierott |
Philip
Pierott is Valedictorian for the 2008 graduating class of
Westbury High School. He is the first African American to
graduate as Valedictorian since Westbury integrated in the
early 1970's. Phillip is the recipient of a Columbia
University Grant and a Friends of Westbury Scholarship. He
plans to study political science at Columbia University.
Pierott is a
member of the National Honor Society, the English National
Honor Society, and the Spanish National Honor Society. English
and government were his favorite subjects at Westbury High
School, where he took seven Advanced Placement courses.
Pierott was active in the Westbury Beautification Club, the
Black History Club, the HISD West Region Student Advisory
Committee, and the No Place for Hate student organization. He
served as the senior class president, the track and field
captain, the cross country team captain, and the orchestra
concert master. He was the recipient of numerous awards in
track and field.
Prior to his
years at Westbury High School, Pierott attended HISD’s Cynthia
Parker Elementary School and Albert Johnston Middle School. He
enjoys running, playing violin, and reading. |

Yvonne Lazcano Earns Houston Endowment Scholarship

Yvonne
Lazcano is Salutatorian for the 2008 graduating class of
Westbury High School. She is the recipient of a Houston
Endowment Scholarship and plans to study pharmacy at Texas
Southern University.
Lazcano is a
member of the National Honor Society, the English National
Honor Society and the French National Honor Society. Math was
her favorite subject at Westbury High School, where she took
eight Advanced Placement courses. Lazcano was active in the
Health Science Technology Club and was the recipient of
numerous awards, including Physics Student of the Year.
Prior to her
years at Westbury High School, Lazcano attended HISD’s Ralph
Anderson Elementary School and Albert Johnston Middle School.
She enjoys swimming, puzzles, and spending time with family. |

Summer School to
Start June 5, End July 2
Westbury High School will host credit
recovery classes this summer from June 5 – July 2.
Students can take up to three classes. Both ‘A’ and ‘B’
sections will be offered, but only from this school year.
Registration will begin April 21 and run through May 23.
Students must register with their counselor or Ms. Guillory.
Summer school space is limited. Late Registration will be June
2, 3, and 4 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm then on June 5 from 3:00 pm
– 6:00 pm. For more information, please contact Westbury's

This year the following classes will be offered:
• English 1A and 1B, English 2A and 2B, English 3A and 3B, and
English 4A and 4B
• Algebra 1A and 1B, Geometry A and B, Algebra 2A and 2B
• World Geography A and B, World History A and B, U.S. History
A and B, Government and Economics
• IPC A and B, Biology A and B, and Chemistry A and B
You must meet the following qualifications to attend:
• Make at least a 60 in the class
• Have no more than 8 absences
• The classes must have been taken here at Westbury High
School |
