The High School for the Engineering Professions
There is a difference in Magnet Schools, and we ask you to look at the track records of other Magnet Schools and compare them to The High School for the Engineering Professions. HSEP has a 34 year history of academic excellence. We offer our students experiences that are unique and well beyond those offered at other high schools. Our academic track record is exceptional! Our 50 to 60 graduating seniors will garner in the neighborhood of $3,000,000.00 to $5,000,000.00 in scholarship opportunities. This HSEP Scholarship recognition extends back, well beyond the previous decade. HSEP students attend the best colleges and universities in the United States such as M.I.T., Stanford, Rice, U.T., T. A and M., Cal. Tech., Southern Cal., Drexel, Tufts, Rennselear, Cornell, Dartmouth, Notre Dame, Rochester Inst. Of Technology, U of H., Air Force Acad., Naval Acad., West Point, and many other prominent universities. Over the last five years, HSEP has had more students accepted to M.I.T. than all other HISD Schools and private schools combined! Obviously, we are extremely proud of the academic accomplishments of our students, however, HSEP students are interested in many different pursuits. HSEP students enter three different robotics competitions each year. The accomplishments of our FIRST Robotics Team including Regional Wins and awards for Engineering Innovation has earned HSEP a national reputation as one of the most competitive programs in the United States. HSEP students are former winners of the American Institute of Architecture: Michael Myers High School Student Design Competition. HSEP, in partnership with universities and businesses, has been part of various pilot programs which are now part of educational curricula. LEGO Robotics and Project Infinity were developed with the help of HSEP students. 2007 marks the beginning of a work-study program, sponsored by GeoControl Systems. In this program, students are paid by GeoControl Systems to study math, physics, and engineering topics relating to the aerodynamics, aerospace, and rocketry fields. This is the first and only program of its kind and High School of Engineering Professions was selected as the site for implementation over three other competing high schools. Currently, we have 30 students (freshmen up to seniors) in the program. Besides work-related experience in math, science, and engineering fields, this program also offers students scholarships and references to further their studies at the “university of their choice." HSEP students have designed and constructed two different experiments that have flown on two different space shuttles. Actually, HSEP graduates are NASA scientists. A HSEP graduate is head of the SUN Chaser Solar Powered Car Competition at M.I.T. One of our graduates heads the design team that developed the front end of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma. The team that developed the current Apple Operating System has a HSEP graduate as part of the team. A HSEP student is a defensive end in the NFL.
