The Waltrip High School Official Dress Code

DRESS CODE FOR 2008-2009

A UNIFORM DRESS CODE HAS BEEN ADOPTED AT WALTRIP BY OUR SHARED DECISION-MAKING COMMITTEE (SDMC) TO HELP CREATE A POSITIVE AND SAFE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. THIS ENVIRONMENT WILL ALLOW STUDENTS TO FOCUS MORE ON LEARNING RATHER THAN ON THE PRESSURES OF DRESS SOMETIMES IMPOSED UPON THEM BY PEERS.

STUDENT ID BADGES are a required part of the dress code. They must be worn above the waist and visible at all times.

SHIRTS will be bright red (maroon is not acceptable), light gray, dark gray, or navy blue, polo style with a collar. Also acceptable is a dress shirt with a button-down collar in light blue Oxford material and Academy shirts purchased from the Academy office. All shirts must be tucked inside the waistband so that no midriff shows and buttoned so that no cleavage shows.

PANTS/SLACKS must be navy blue or khaki tan color; no denim/jean material and cannot be painter or cargo pants with pockets on the side of the legs. They must clear the floor, fit at the waist, and not be baggy, skin tight, ripped or frayed. Capri style pants or shorts are not allowed.

SKIRTS/JUMPERS must be navy blue or khaki tan in color, no denim or jean material. Skirts are to be no shorter than three (3) inches above the knee when standing upright or kneeling. An approved shirt must be worn with the jumper dress. No overalls or skorts are allowed.

BELTS are suggested, but not required.

SHOES must have backs or heel straps to prevent injury on the stairs. No flip-flops or house shoes are allowed.

COLD WEATHER: Students may wear a solid colored red, gray, black, or navy blue sweater (no turtle necks) or jacket over an approved shirt. Letter jackets may also be worn. No long coats below the knees or extremely large coats are allowed.

ACCESSORIES: Clothing, jewelry, or hats with profane language, references to death, violent acts, gang activities, illegal drugs, sex, or tobacco MAY NOT be worn. Tattoos with reference to items described in this paragraph may not be visible. Any jewelry deemed unsafe by a principal may not be worn, will be confiscated, and returned to a parent after meeting with the principal.

· Hair must be neat. Hair must be a natural color. No grooming devices are to be worn in the hair. Hats, caps, bandanas, do-rags, or hoods are not to be worn in the building.

· Sunglasses are not to be worn in the building except by written approval of the school nurse, after receiving a doctor’s directive to that effect.

· Students may not wear body jewelry in the nostrils, eyebrows, lip, or any other place but the ear (maximum of two [2] earrings per ear). If you have facial piercings, you must either wear a clear shunt or have them covered by a Band-Aid. Bracelets and necklaces are limited to two (2).

· Jackets, sweaters, and shirts, etc. may not be tied around the waist or neck. They must be worn appropriately, be carried, or placed in lockers. Pants cannot be rolled up above the ankle.

· All backpacks/book bags brought to school must be clear or mesh material. Sports bags may not be carried during school hours.

· Administrators will determine whether or not the dress and decorum of a student meet the standards of the school. Any clothing article, jewelry, etc. deemed to be unsafe by an administrator will not be permitted.

SPIRIT DAY: Every Friday is Spirit-Shirt day. Academy shirts, club shirts such as NHS or Student Council, Waltrip team shirts and senior shirts are considered spirit day shirts and may be worn on Friday only. Students must wear pants or slacks that fit within the dress code as described above. No jeans are allowed.

Students in violation of the dress code will be sent to their academy office to contact a parent or rent the appropriate clothing item. Students not able to comply with the dress code within a reasonable time will be sent to the Student Referral Center (SRC).

CÓDIGO DE VESTIMENTA PARA 2008-2009

EL COMITÉ SHARED DECISION-MAKING (SDMC) HA ADOPTADO EL CODIGO DE VESTIMENTA PARA WALTRIP CON EL PROPÓSITO DE CREAR UN AMBIENTE DE APRENDIZAJE POSITIVO Y SEGURO. ESTE AMBIENTE PERMITIRÁ A LOS ESTUDIANTES CONCENTRARSE EN APRENDER, EN VEZ DE LAS PRESIONES RELACIONADAS AL MODO DE VESTIRSE, GENERALMENTE IMPUESTAS POR LOS COMPAÑEROS.

LAS TARJETAS DE IDENTIFICACIÓN son parte de la vestimenta. Tendrán que llevarse arriba de la cintura en un lugar visible todo el tiempo.

LAS CAMISAS Y BLUSAS deben ser de color rojo vivo (no se acepta el color marrón), gris claro, gris obscuro o azul marino, tipo polo con cuello. También se pueden usar camisas azul claro de material Oxford con botones y las camisas de la tienda Academy. Las camisas y blusas deben estar dentro de la falda o el pantalón bien botonadas y fajadas.

LOS PANTALONES tienen que ser de color azul marino o caqui; los pantalones de de mezclilla no son aceptable, ni tampoco los pantalones tipo cargo con bolsas a los lados de las piernas. Deben llegar al piso, ajustados a la cintura, no tipo baggy, pegados a la cintura, rotos o desgastados. No se permiten pantalones tipo “capri” ni los pantalones cortos.

LAS FALDAS O JUMPERS deben ser de color azul marino o caqui, no de mezclilla. Las faldas no deben ser más cortas de tres (3) pulgadas arriba de las rodillas si se mide estando de pie o de rodillas. Se deberá usar la falda mencionada anteriormente con un vestido jumper. No se permiten overoles ni skorts.

CINTURONES se aconseja su uso pero no son obligatorios.

LOS ZAPATOS deben cubrir el talón o cintas que sujeten el pié para prevenir algún accidente en las escaleras. No se permiten sandalias o chanclas.

CLIMA FRIO: Los estudiantes podrán usar un suéter color sólido como rojo, gris, negro o azul marino (no cuello de tortuga) o chaquetas sobre la playera oficial. Se permiten las chaquetas de piel. No están permitidos los abrigos largos que lleguen debajo de las rodillas.

ACCESORIOS: NO SE PUEDE usar ropa, joyería y sombreros que muestren lenguaje profano, hagan referencia a la muerte, actos violentos, pandillas, drogas, sexo o tabaco. Los tatuajes que hagan referencia a lo anteriormente descrito no deben ser visibles. Cualquier tipo de joyas que el director estime ser inseguro, será confiscado y solamente se regresará a los padres después de tener una junta con el director.

· El cabello debe lucir bien. No está permitido teñirse el cabello. Los alumnos no pueden llevar peines u otros artículos en el cabello. Los sombreros, gorras, diademas, do-rags no se pueden llevar en el edificio.

· No se permite usar lentes obscuros en el edificio exceptuando a aquellos que tengan un permiso por escrito de la enfermera de la escuela después haber recibido una directiva de un médico.

· Los estudiantes no podrán usar joyas en las, cejas, boca o en cualquier otro lugar que no sea la oreja, (máximo dos aretes por oreja). Si tienes perforaciones en la cara, debes usar una gasa limpia o cubrirlos con un curita. Sólo se permite usar dos brazaletes o pulseras.

· No se podrán amarrar a la cintura o al cuello las chamarras, suéteres, playeras, etc. Deberás de usarlas o llevarlas de una forma apropiada o llevarlo a sus armarios (locker). No se podrán doblar los pantalones arriba de los talones.

· Todas las mochilas o bolsas para libros que se traigan a la escuela deberán ser transparentes o de mallas. No se podrán usar mochilas deportivas (sports bags) durante las horas de clases.

· La administración determinará si el estudiante cumple o no con el código de vestimenta de la escuela. No se permitirá llevar cualquier vestimenta, joyas, etc. que un administrador haya recomendado como insegura para el ambiente escolar no se podrá usar.

SPIRIT DAY: Todos los viernes es “Spirit Day”. Solamente los viernes se podrán usar playeras de la escuela, clubes, asi como NHS o Student Council, playeras del equipo Waltrip y playeras senior. Los estudiantes deberán usar pantalones que cumplan con el código de vestimenta descrito anteriormente. Los jeans no están permitidos.

Los estudiantes que violen el código de conducta serán enviados a la oficina de la academia para contactar a los padres o rentar la ropa apropiada. Los estudiantes que no cumplan con el código de vestimenta en un tiempo razonable serán enviados al Student Referral Center (SRC).
