| Marketing Education is a vocational program designed for high school students interested in pursuing careers in marketing and management in the retail, wholesale and service selling industries. Marketing Education provides students a way to secure entry level, mid management, and entrepreneurial positions in marketing, while attending high school. M.E. Coop I students are dismissed from school to go to work after third and seventh period. |
WHAT TYPES OF CAREERS ARE COVERED WITHIN THE MARKETING EDUCATION PROGRAM?
A student may work in any of the following job areas:
*Advertising and display
*Apparel and accessories marketing
*Appliance marketing
*Automotive and petroleum marketing
*Business and personal services marketing
*Business ownership and entrepreneurship
*Convenience store marketing
*Fashion merchandising
*Finance and credit services marketing
*Floristry
*Food marketing (grocery stores)
*Food services marketing (restaurants)
*General merchandise retailing
*Hardware and building materials marketing
*Home furnishings marketing
*Hotel, motel management
*Industrial, institutional, and wholesale marketing
*Insurance marketing
*Real estate marketing
*Recreation and tourism marketing
*Travel services marketing
*Transportation marketing
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF GETTING INTO MARKETING EDUCATION?
The benefits are many--but most importantly, students start preparing for their future careers while in high school. They learn skills which they can utilize to help advance more quickly in their chosen career fields. Upon graduation, they are equipped with job skills which will help them secure employment during and after college.
HOW MANY HOURS WILL I BE REQUIRED TO WORK EACH WEEK?
The Marketing Education Coop I student is required to work 15 hours minimum during the Monday through Friday school week. Although he/she may work more, the student should remember that grades are top priority and too many work hours may interfere with classroom grades.
IF I TAKE MARKETING EDUCATION, CAN I STILL GO TO COLLEGE?
Most definitely. Upon graduation, the M.E. student will have all the required credits and classes needed for entry into college. In addition, there are several scholarships which are available through the Marketing Education classes which M.E. students may apply for.
ARE THERE ANY PREREQUISITES FOR GETTING INTO MARKETING EDUCATION?
The following must be done before a student can get into the Marketing Education classes; The student must:
*Complete an application and turn it in to your counselor.
*Interview with Mrs. Saenz or Mrs. Keller.
*Be approved by Mrs. Saenz or Mrs. Keller.
*Have a "C" grade average or better in all classes.
*Have good conduct.
*Have good attendance.

WHAT IS DECA?
DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America. DECA is the youth organization (club) which is affiliated with the Marketing Education classes here at Waltrip H.S. Its purpose is to develop leadership skills which will prepare the student for careers in marketing and management. |
