The Waltrip High School Library contains some 12,500 plus volumes and over 450 educational videotapes. The library catalog is in the form of an electronic database, and the management system for circulation is also automated. The library offers 10 computer stations for student use. Waltrip students may use these computers to access the card catalog or the Internet.

Membership in the Texas Library Connection (TLC) allows the library to access ProQuest, an online database of newspaper articles, reference tools and periodicals. Access to ProQuest from the student’s home computer is also allowed.

To access ProQuest, click on this link ProQuest, then click on the Connect to ProQuest button on the page. Enter the name as: 4KWP4MJ4JC and the password: WELCOME. TLC provides access to Encyclopedia Britannica Online in addition to ProQuest. The library subscribes to 67 general interest magazines and 16 professional journals in addition to the electronic periodicals. Hard copies of these publications are kept on file for a three-year period.

Teachers may reserve space in the library for their classes. The library can accomodate up to two classes each period. Students may also be sent by teacher permit to the library to work on their own. During the two lunch periods the library is open to students without permits.

The library also offers students the opportunity to learn and use audio visual equipment such as camcorders and video tape editors for producing student projects for such events as History Fair or Science Fair and other class projects. Two stations are available to students who wish to use word processors to produce printed papers for class assignments.

The library plans to expand the student computer stations to 14 and to increase the number of book title selections to 14,000 to better serve the school’s population.
