Board Meetings are held at Waltrip High School in the Distance Learning Center and start around 6:15 P.M. Anyone who wishes to address the board or to put forth any business before the board may do so.
***** Magnet Course Selection
Night for incoming magnet students is set for
Thursday, June 5 at 6:30pm. The PTA needs
volunteers to help with membership signups and
Waltrip PTA T-shirt sales. For those of you who
have trouble volunteering during the day, this is a
short, easy job. Please respond to me by email.
*****PTA will be running a "Concession Stand" each day during summer school which runs from June 5 - July 2. The concession stand sells drinks and snacks (everything is $.50) to students who are enrolled in summer school at Waltrip. It is only open for the morning break - 15 minutes each day. I am still very much in need of a few people who will commit to help. No experience necessary, must be able to make change in $.50 increments and be able to tell a bag of flamin' hot cheetos from the regular ones. I am putting together a calendar and will send out reminders to those who commit to work. There needs to be at least two, or three, people each day, and it is easier if one of the volunteers each day has done it before, but no volunteer who can come only one day will be turned away. It is a very busy 15 minutes each of the 20 days of summer school, but greatly appreciated by summer school staff and students alike. Students not attending summer school can earn service hours for helping. This is a great opportunity for those of you who teach and are not able to help at Waltrip during the regular school year. Please contact me at lvjennett@comcast.net if you can give a few minutes of your time during the first weeks of the summer. Although this is called a fundraiser, it is primarily intended to be a service for the school. Thank you. Freshman orientation ( Fish Camp) is scheduled for August 15, 2008. Classes resume August 25, 2008. An HISD Calendar for the 2008-2009 school year is available online at the HISD website. Have a great summer. If you want to be a part of this email service next year, please remember to join the PTA next year. A membership form is available in the Waltrip PTA webpage. |

The PTA is a nonprofit, democratic, voluntary organization whose membership is open to all persons who are concerned with the welfare of all children and youth and who are willing to uphold its basic policies, subscribe to its bylaws, and fulfill the objects of the PTA. More information about PTA can be found on the national PTA website at www.pta.org or the Texas PTA website at www.txpta.org
The Waltrip PTA is an organization consisting primarily of faculty and staff at Waltrip and parents of students enrolled at Waltrip. Students in grades 9-12 can be members as well. Our overall goal is to develop united efforts of faculty, staff, and parents to provide quality education for all students at Waltrip. Toward this goal we encourage all parents, faculty, and staff to become members of the PTA. The PTA encourages opportunities for parents to become involved in volunteering in the school and for faculty and staff to seek opportunities for parent volunteers.
The 2007-2008 Waltrip PTA is committed to two goals for this academic year: to increase communication to and from parents of Waltrip students and to continue to raise funds to enhance Waltrip’s ability to service its students’ needs. To increase communication we hope that we can increase membership in the PTA and build communication networks through our members. We intend to utilize the school’s call-out system and e-mails to provide more information and communication to our members about upcoming events, testing dates, etc. To raise funds for the betterment of the school, the PTA this year is continuing the plan begun last year to dedicate all funds raised in excess of budgeted needs to improving the sound system of the auditorium and to any other project that the PTA deems necessary. The PTA fundraisers for this year are several “choice dress” days set throughout the year and projects still to be named.
In addition to these goals, the PTA will continue to provide student achievement incentives, two teacher appreciation lunches, parent volunteers, opportunities for parent input in school decisions, and scholarships for senior who have parents who are members of the PTA. The amount of scholarship money available depends partially on the success of fundraisers conducted by the PTA each year.
To join the PTA complete the membership form (Word Doc).
