Yes
it's soccer season again. We are
excited about the line-up of this year's
girls team. Coach Rossi says that the
team has a lot of talent and expects to win
District. The team was pictured on
1-7-09 as they prepared for their first
scrimmage game of the season. Their
opponents were a "no-show" so we were able
to get shots of our girls in action as they
practiced. The team is lead by coach
Roger Rossi and Ms. Adynian. Click

Briejae Huff
recently became one of
only eight Houston-area
student athletes to win
a $1,000 scholarship
from Reliant Energy
through the company's
Scholarship for
Champions—Powering
Strong Minds and Bodies
program.
Candidates had to be in
good academic standing
and demonstrate
outstanding leadership
abilities to be
considered for the
scholarship, and winners
were selected by
representatives from
Reliant Energy and the
Houston Texans.
Huff,
a senior at
Sharpstown High
School, is a
“setter” on the girls’
volleyball team. She
volunteers at the
Houston Parks and
Recreation Department
and serves as an
informal peer tutor at
Sharpstown in addition
to her work with
National Honor Society.
Huff also is a member of
the G-Force club, a
mentor group that helps
encourage students to go
to college.
“Helping students reach
their academic goals
through sports supports
Reliant Energy’s caring
for our community core
value,” said Manny
Rodriquez, vice
president, Reliant
Energy Brand and
Marketing Services. “We
are especially proud of
the Scholarship for
Champions student
athletes because they
demonstrate hard work
and leadership on the
athletic field, as well
in the community and
classroom.”
Scholarship recipients
will also have an
opportunity to
participate in a
pre-game on-field
presentation at a Texans
home game during the
regular season and will
be honored at the next
Houston Texans Draft
Luncheon, where Houston
Texans players are
recognized.

Background
of School name: Sharpstown High originated in 1968
as Sharpstown Junior / Senior High School located
where Sharpstown Middle School is currently located.
The high school split away from the middle school
and moved to it's present location in 1969. The
school was named after Mr. Frank Sharp, a major
developer in the southwest area. |

Thanks to our maintenance staff for all of their hard work! |
Think
about what kind of job you might like in the
future. Most professions, including those in
healthcare, computer technology, and engineering,
for example, require a college degree or
certificate. You can learn more about requirements
for different careers, and what majors are offered
at Texas' public colleges and universities at
www.CollegeForTexans.com
. If you know the direction you are going, you'll
stay on track, saving yourself time and money.
We are excited to have Ms. Andrea on our campus.
Ms. Andrea is the GO Center counselor and is located
in room 100. Please feel free to visit with
her and get all the information you need to make a
wise college decision. |
