The Band is under the Direction of Mrs. Brenda Corral-Smith, Mr. Jose Corral,
and Mr. Roger Willis.

The Drum Major for the 2008-2009 school year is Ms. Ismael Romero.

Houston Symphony Mission:
The mission of the Houston Symphony is to inspire and enrich the lives of our diverse citizenry through outstanding symphonic music performed by our great orchestra.

Mrs. Brenda Corral-Smith and a few Apollo Band member were given the opportunity to go back-stage and visit with Kenny G.

Free Houston Symphony concert attendance is just one of the benefits Mrs. Smith and band members receive from the Fidelity FutureStage program.

The incredible Mrs. Brenda Corral-Smith is pictured above as she conducted the Apollo band at the Mr. Holland Opus Award ceremony held on Thursday December 13, 2007.

"It was an incredible site"! There was a stage-full of new music instruments hidden behind the curtain, as the band performed at the Holland Opus / Fidelity Investments award ceremony. With a drum-roll the curtain opened and 6 members of the Houston Symphony were standing behind the new instruments. There was incredible gasps by the band members, and even tears, when they saw the stage .

Wow!!! The Mighty Sharpstown Apollo Band is Setting School Records and getting National Attention.

The 2008 band is the first Sharptown Band to perform in U.I.L. competition in 27 years.

Now to top "Competing in U.I.L.", the Sharpstown Apollo Band received a surprise from the Mr. Holland Opus Foundation. Sharptown High School is the first HISD School to receive the Mr. Holland Opus Award.

As part of the recognition: Fidelity Investments and the Houston Symphony, who work in conjunction with the Mr. Holland Opus Foundation, donated a stage full of brand new musical instruments to the band program on Thursday Dec. 13,2007 at an award ceremony held in the school auditorium.
