UPWARD BOUND

Upward Bound is a federally-funded program that provides FREE academic support services to disadvantaged students whose dream is to graduate from a 4-year college.

The program provides assistance to participants during all four years of high school, guides them through the college-application process, and prepares them for their first year in college.

Services Provided

Upward Bound provides all its students with services that will help them succeed in high school and in college.

Academic Year
In the Fall and Spring semesters, Upward Bound provides weekly services to students. Usually, this means tutoring, mentoring, advising, and academic enrichment work-shops. All of these are held after school hours at their own high school.

Every report card cycle, there is a field trip to reward students who met their goals. In these field trips, students may visit in-state colleges, local museums, and other places of interest.

College-Bound Activities
Additional activities, such as preparing for the PSAT, SAT and ACT, are required of all juniors and seniors, who nearing important deadlines. UB walks students through the college application process and advice them regarding financial aid and scholarships.

Summer Session

The summer session is a 6-week residential camp where students get a glimpse of the real college life. Chaperoned by counselors, students stay in the dorms during the week and go home on weekends.

Parents are required to attend one activity each semester, usually at the beginning of the semester in the evenings or weekends. Events are planned well in advance to allow parents sufficient time to add them their to their busy schedules.

Typically, these events cover:

· Surviving high school
· Understanding teenagers
· Working with the school’s administration
