Scarborough’s Social Studies Department offers a selection of course work for all required credits, interests and ability levels which include World Geography Studies, World History Studies, United States History Since Reconstruction, Economics: Free Enterprise System and US Government.

Courses designed to prepare students for the Advanced Placement College Credit Examinations in addition to high school credit include AP World History, AP United States History, AP Government and AP Economics. Houston Community College Dual Credit may also be earned in AP United States History for students who meet the criteria.

Elective Course credits which are also offered within the Social Studies Department include Psychology, Sociology and Advanced Placement European History. All courses in the Social Studies Department challenge students to become life-long learners who will make positive contributions to our society, and also support the TAKS objectives preparing all students to pass the Texas State TAKS Exit Exam.

History Fair Projects are required of all World Geography, World History and US History students. Projects will be on display in the school library the week of December 10th – 14th. Projects may consist of an Exhibit, Performance or Documentary accompanied by a process paper and an annotated bibliography or a Research Paper plus the annotated bibliography. Winning projects will go on to compete in the District Fair to be held at Waltrip High School on January 29th. Contact individual teachers for details.
