We are committed to preparing all students who attend Milby for
success beyond the High School experience. Appearance has a great deal to do
with a studentís success and the learning atmosphere in and outside school.
Safety is our first responsibility to those we serve; this is only possible by
minimizing any opportunity for behavior that may result in violence,
unauthorized intruders, premeditated gatherings or conspiracy. In order to
maintain a high level of security ,
∑ Yellow/Gold White, and Blue
∑ Polo/Oxford or Button down type shirt and Blouses Only. Solid color (No Plaids, Stripes etc.,)
∑ Must have sleeves, short or long, with a collar, girls blouses may have a V-neck
∑ Girlís Blouses must not expose any midriff or skin and need to be long enough to be tucked in or at pant pocket level.
∑ Shirts that have tails Must Be worn Tucked-In.
∑ Shirts without tails cannot exceed a length beyond the end of the trouser/pant front pocket.
∑ Students who elect to wear undergarments such as T-Shirts may only use white colored T-Shirts, no exceptions.
∑ Navy or Khaki Brown Pants
∑ Plain design with no special alterations.
∑ Properly fitted, in good condition.
∑ NO OVERALLS, ATHLETIC WEAR, SWEAT PANTS, OR JUMPERS MAY BE WORN
unless used in conjunction with PE or extracurricular activities, but not during regular classes during the school day.
∑ No Denim jeans of any color will be allowed during the regular school week.
∑ Skirts must be at least knee-length.
∑ Girl pants may include flood/Capri style.
Shoes (for safety purposes)
∑ All shoes must cover and enclose the foot and heel area.
∑ Shower shoes. flip flops, shoes with roller-skates are not permitted.
Piercing/Jewelry (for safety purposes)
∑ Only piercing of the ears is allowed.
∑ Extreme jewelry or accessories are not acceptable.
∑ Shorts are not allowed.
∑ Head coverings of any type are not allowed.
∑ Backpacks must be made of mesh or see-through material.
∑ Extreme attire dress/fashion/hairstyles/or hair colors that interrupt the school process will not be acceptable.
∑ Winter clothing may be worn during cold weather.
∑ Students must be in compliance with the standard dress code. Pants, skirts, and dresses should be within the color and dress outlined above.
∑ Winter Accessory Items (Ear warmers, caps, scarfís, etc, need to be removed upon entering the building)
∑ Sweaters and sweatshirts are acceptable as long as they are consistent with the adopted school colors and are worn over a standard dress shirt with a visible collar.
∑ Jackets must be worn open with a collared shirt.
∑ No long trench coats or physical education clothes (warm-up suits, sweat suits, etc.) are allowed in the classroom, even if the student has physical education during the first or last period of the school day.
∑ New students enrolling at Milby High School will be allowed a grace period of no more than five (5) calendar days to comply with the dress code.
∑ Appropriate undergarments must be worn.
∑ No strange contact lenses- only prescribed eyewear. If contact lenses are questionable, students must provide a written optometristís prescription.
∑ NO USE OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES WILL BE PERMITTED DURING TESTING. It is recommended that students leave these devices at home during testing. The USE OF CELL PHONES DURING THE ADMINISTRATION OF TESTS IS PROHIBITED AND MAY REVOKE THE STUDENTíS TEST.
∑ Club shirts must meet with the School Color standards and have Written Approval by the Principal or his designee, in advance.
∑ Spirit and Club shirts must display the Campus Name (Milby) followed by the name of the organization.
Communication and Electronic Devices
∑ All CD players, headphones, IPODs, MP3 players or any device that distracts or impedes student learning or the orderly business of the school day is prohibited for use during the instructional day except during lunch. Violations will result in confiscation of devices and only parents will be allowed to pickup the device, no exception. Repeat offenders will be subject to consequences as prescribed in the HISD Student code of Conduct for persistent and repeated behavior.
∑ Any communication device such as Cell phones or those with text messaging capability must be turned off and stored in backpack, pocket, purse, during instructional class day. Violations will result in teacher/administrative removal (confiscate) of said item(s). There is a mandatory conference with the Teacher, Administrator, and Parent before item can be released to parent. Repeat offenders will be subject to consequences as prescribed in the HISD Student code of Conduct for persistent and repeated behavior.
Note: Any clothing or change of appearance that disrupts the educational process during the school day will be deemed to be a dress code violation. Remember our first priority is safety and orderliness so that we may provide the best instruction possible, so please respect yourself and others.
