Middle
College for
Technology
Careers High School (MCTC-HS) was established
in 1994 on the campus of Houston Community College . In 1998, the
Houston Independent School District established an agreement with Texas
Southern University to not only secure a new location for the school, but to
incorporate a unique learning environment for technology preparatory high
school students. Presently, MCTC-HS is located on the 2nd Floor of
Albert Thomas Middle School at 5655 Selinsky Street.
Our program is designed to motivate and challenge students interested in
developing technological and college preparatory skills. When students
graduate they are prepared for both higher education and technology
related employment.
MCTC-HS’s
program is in accordance with state and local (Houston I.S.D.) requirements for high
school accreditation and graduation. Additionally, selected classes
have been authorized as dual credit courses, meaning students are able to receive both high school
credit as well as college semester hours for some classes.
After
meeting specific qualifications, students may elect to take basic industry-
standard Information Technology certified courses offered through Houston
Community College System (HCCS) and the
CISCO Networking Academy
Program. These courses instruct students in the
design, construction and maintenance of computer networks. Students
graduating from MCTC who have completed these courses from
HCCS are
eligible to received up to nine semester hours applicable towards a HCCS degree in technology.
HISD support services,
which include HISD transportation and free or reduced price lunches are
available to all students. Also, the safety of MCTC students, like
all HISD students, is a priority and Houston I.S.D. police are assigned to our campus .
School uniforms are required for all MCTC students.
