Application to the IB

Each year, the Lamar Magnet Program receives in excess of 1,500 applications form 8th grade students seeking acceptance. Each application is evaluated and scored in the following four areas:

7th Grade year end averages for English, Math, Science and History
7th Grade standardized test scores (TAAS/TAKS, Stanford, etc)
8th Grade average from first report card for all classes
8th Grade conduct

Applicants receive points in each of those areas depending on how well they perform. The total number of points is then used to rank the students for the purpose of acceptance. Acceptance is highly competitive and requires students to have excellent grades, test scores and conduct in both 7th and 8th grade.

Lamar Magnet Program accepts applications only from 8th grade students for entry into 9th grade. There is no entry at other grade levels.
