Come to Barbara Jordan high school for careers. You will always learn more, learn better and have more fun learning, when you can use what you learn now – not years later.

 

Choose your career path by what interests you!
What are you interested in? Do you like to work on cars, or is working in healthcare, cosmetology, photography, advertising/design, CAD drafting, business, auto paint/body, welding, electronics, Oracle, A+ certification, Cisco Networking, printing, building trades, or food service. Is this more of what you see yourself doing?

Program Description
The courses at Barbara Jordan High School for Careers are designed to meet the needs of students and the many businesses and industries in the Houston Metropolitan Area. At BJHSC, students have the opportunity to receive training in the occupation of their choice while earning a high school diploma at the same time. This is a distinct advantage for today’s graduate because it gives BJHSC graduates a career path choice after completing their high school education. The student may enter the job market with a salable skill or continue their education at a college, university, community college, or technical school.

 

The Curriculum

The curriculum at Barbara Jordan High School for Careers is designed to:
Offer Career clusters to freshmen (9th Graders)
Give students basic, specific instruction in the career of their choice.
Instruct students in grades 10 through 12 by using in-shop applications or lab practice and career preparation / cooperative (on-the-job) training.
Prepare students for the job market relating to their career training. Meet requirements in all academic subjects to earn a high school diploma, including offering (AP) Pre-Advanced Placement classes and Dual Credit classes through Houston Community College.

 

Enrollment Requirements for Students Entering 9th through 12th Graders at BJHSC.

Acceptable grades, discipline, attendance and TAKS scores.
Completion by parent, student and coordinator of an Entrance Agreement which defines expectations of the program.

 

Ninth Grades are to bring:

Copy of 7th grade report card
Copy of current 8th grade report card
Copy current immunization record
Copy of standardized (e.g. TAKS / Stanford 10)

 

Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth graders are to bring:

Unofficial copy of transcript
Copy of most recent report card
Copy of current immunization record
Copy of standardized (e.g. TAKS / Stanford 10) test results
