I grew up on a farm in the small town of Germantown, Illinois (45 minutes east of St. Louis).
I attended Eastern Illinois University and received my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 1984. In the summer of 1985, I moved to Houston and took a teaching position at Kay OnGoing Education Center, a school for pregnant teens. In July 1993 I changed school and began teaching at my present school, DeBakey High School for Health Professions, a magnet school for students planning to pursue medical careers. I received my MS degree in Instructional Technology at the University of Houston-Clear Lake in May, 1997.
