TENNIS
The 2008 season is coming up and looks to be a smashing success for all teams in the Westside Tennis Program. We have another great group of student athletes this year and I looked forward to working with them everyday. With the tennis season running from September all the way until May it is a tough road to hold for the athletes. The fall season consist of playing as a team and then in the spring an athlete plays either singles or doubles.
Westside Tennis a growing tradition of excellence. Coach Catchings has built the team from a total of 22 students in 2000 to 71 students in the tennis program in 2007. The team has won four district championships for the boys, three district championships for the girls, three Team Tennis Championships, and three second place finishes for both teams. We have had 38 athletes qualify for the Regional Tournament and two for the State Tournament as individuals. We have qualified for Regional Team Tennis four times.
The Varsity Team should be very strong again this year with 20 out of 24 returning players. Regional Team Tennis will be very tough again this year as Preliminary Rankings show 10 out of 20 top programs ranking wise are in the Wolves Region. Spring Tennis should produce another 8 to 12 Wolves players making it to the Regional Tournament and possible 3 players advancing to State.
The Junior Varsity and Freshman Teams continue to see increased playing time in Team Tennis in the fall and Individual Tennis in the spring. It will be tough competition to move up to the Varsity Team this year on either side, but there is always that chance and a player must be ready. The great thing about these two programs: are that they serve as a key building block for the future of Westside Tennis and gives these young students a chance at learning a life-time sport.

TRY-OUT PROCEDURES AND ACTIVITY FEES
The Tennis Packet can be picked up in the main office or in South 207 from Coach Catchings and all Tennis Packet Paperwork must be turned in on 8/25/08 to Coach Catchings.
Tennis Tryouts will be 8/23/08 at 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. This is for all athletes that want to play tennis. Yes this means that even if you played last year you will have to tryout on this date. If you miss this date you will need to arrange a time with Coach Catchings. The activity fee is $475 for the year.
Please remember that all athletes must submit the required athletic packet forms referred to under General Information.
PRACTICES
Varsity Tennis starts practice on 8/25/08 and begins play on 9/2/08.
JV/F Tennis starts on 8/26/08.
