Following graduation, he became a teaching professional at Golfsmith International in Austin, TX. He also competed on the Hooters and Lone Star PGA tours. He is one of the inaugural staff members at Westside and has been teaching Speech and running the golf program since 2000.  Coach Peterson’s goals for the 2008-2009 season include placing the program first in cumulative sports program GPA, having the Wolves varsity win its fourth consecutive district title, taking individual medalist honors for the fifth year in a row and capturing a district title for the Lady Wolves.

TRY-OUT PROCEDURES AND ACTIVITY FEES

The Westside golf program plans on carrying 12-14 boys and 6 girls.  Beginning players should be able to shoot below 100 with the ability to lower scores into the 70-80s by their junior year.  Players are expected to show self-discipline and a strong desire to improve.

There is a $700 activity fee for the course/program ($350/semester).  Players not making the team will be cut after the Fall Semester.  The Activity fee is used for practice fees (range balls), transportation to and from tournaments, equipment, entry fees and a T-shirt.

Activity fees are non refundable if a player has to be removed from the program for either discipline or academic reasons.

Please remember that all athletes must submit the required athletic packet forms referred to under General Information.  All paperwork is due by the first day of school or the athlete will not be able to participate until his/her paperwork is received.

PRACTICES

Most class/practice time will be spent off campus at an assigned practice facility or golf course.  Players are responsible for their own transportation to and from practice.  They may receive rides from parents or other players (with parent permission).
