DISCIPLINE MANAGEMENT
Discipline is to be the cornerstone upon which a Basketball program is built. Participation in extra-curricular activities is a privilege. Our student-athletes must be willing to conform to established standards of behavior in the classroom, on the basketball court, and in the community. The majority of young people want to belong to something that is positive and wholesome. Young people are desperate for guidance, discipline, and a sense of belonging that is derived from being part of a team. Participation in athletics provides young people with one of the purest avenues to fulfill these needs.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
The guidelines for the Discipline Management Program will be based on the following basic behaviors:
- Do right. Know the difference between right and wrong. Do what is right and avoid doing those things you know to be wrong.
- Do not do anything to embarrass the family. By the family I mean:
- Your immediate family (your household);
- Westside High School Basketball team;
- Westside High School Athletics;
- Westside High School; and
- Houston Independent School District.
The conduct of our student-athletes is a direct reflection on each of these groups. You have a responsibility to represent them to the best of your ability.
- Treat others the way you wish to be treated. Treat all people that you come in contact with during the course of a day with dignity and respect. (“Yes, sir,” “No, sir,” “Thank you.”)
