COURSE SELECTION

The process of course selection begins with formulating a four-year plan. While many students start this in the spring of 8th grade when we visit our feeder schools, all incoming 9th graders will complete a freshmen course selection sheet when they register. In addition, students will have the opportunity to meet with their dean annually to discuss and revise the plan. A copy of the Four-year Plan document is available here, as is a link to graduation requirements.

Once at Westside, students complete a course request form towards the end of each semester using the Selection Guide to view available classes. They will be given an opportunity to meet with their dean if they need assistance. Our course catalog is available on line but please be aware that it is updated periodically.

Please watch our weekly news and check our homepage announcements for distribution of course selection forms and due dates. A copy of current forms will be posted here when available.

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Students receive their schedules during orientations in the fall and during the first day of school each semester. Most students will have to request a change (either as a correction or change of heart) sometime in their four years at Westside. Getting every student the courses they need and want is a formidable job! We have a process for schedule changes and students will be given detailed information at school. Please allow your child to handle this and give us time to make changes at the beginning of each semester.

You may also hear that a class is overcrowded or another has numerous empty seats. Because we don’t know exactly who will be here until the first week of school, we may need to level some classes and move students during the first few weeks. Again, please give us time.
