Final Examinations

In HISD, a final examination will be required in all state and local credit courses, including PE and electives, unless a school has a waiver approved by the HISD School Board.
To be exempted from final examinations, students must have:

1. Approved waiver,
2. Senior classification,
3. Eighty-five average or better in course,
4. S or E conduct average,
5. No more than three (3) total absences.

Approval is for second semester seniors only. Schools may adopt a waiver to implement stricter standards than those approved by the HISD, School Board, but must notify both students and parents of the school's policy. A student who is awarded an exemption from any final exam may not be counted present for ADA funding purposes even though the student is not required to be in attendance when the exam is given.
