B. T. Washington High School recognizes the challenges faced by students and parents in making the change from middle school to high school; therefore, we are offering a two-week summer program for incoming ninth grade students.  Schools have held such a program, and it has enabled rising ninth graders to prepare for high school by reviewing and enhancing their readiness and by acclimating them to high school culture.  We invite you to enroll your child in this summer’s mandatory 9th Grade Transition Program: Jumpstart to Eagle Success Summer Academy, from July 13-24, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. This will be an exciting and fun learning opportunity in which students will:

• Meet administrators and teachers who will work with them during the upcoming school year;

• View and explore the physical lay-out of their high school campus;

• Explore courses in mathematics, language arts, science for high school learners;

• Receive direct instruction in specific success strategies, such as effective study skills, note-taking and time management;

• Learn about extra-curricular activities including sports and clubs;

• Research college and career options;

• Complete 9th grade readiness assessments;

• Learn about the school’s academic programs and requirements for high school graduation; and

• Participate in a service learning project and closing program; and

• Go to Moody Gardens on an educational field experience where they will visit theRainforest and go to West Beach.  Lunch will be provided by the school.
