UIL Foundation Scholarships
for participation in the Uil
academic state meet
The Texas Interscholastic League Foundation is one of the truly unique and special aspects of UIL participation. In 2008-09, the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation will disburse more than $1.2 million to approximately 390 new and more than 230 renewed students attending 70 colleges and universities in Texas.
Since its inception in 1954, TILF has awarded more than 16,000 scholarships valued at approximately $22 million. Amounts of scholarships range from $500 for one year to $15,200 ($3,800 a year) for four years. Some scholarships have special requirements or restrictions such as requiring students to select certain majors, attend specific colleges or universities, or compete in specific contests. For more complete information refer to the TILF scholarship brochure which is mailed to member schools each year in March. New awards not listed in the revised brochure will be announced in the Leaguer, which is mailed to all member schools. 1. Compete in one of the UIL Academic State Meet Contests, (applicants must have competed on the state level of competition). Note: only CX debaters advancing to the second day elimination rounds may apply.
2. Submit a complete high school transcript including ACT/SAT scores, size of class and rank in class.
3. Submit a completed application and parent’s IRS 1040 form to the TILF office no later than May 15th, following the UIL academic state tournament and during the student’s senior year.
4. Graduate during the current year and begin college or university by the following fall semester.
5. Attend an accredited college or university in Texas, take a 12-hour per term minimum course load and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. One donor requires 15 hours per term, and several donors require a minimum GPA of 3.0.

New brochures and applications will be sent to member schools in March to the attention of principals and counselors. Applications may be requested after March from the TILF office by sending a self-addressed 9 1⁄2 x 4” envelope with two first-class stamps. Graduating seniors earning eligibility in previous years must request applications and must enclose a self-addressed 9 1⁄2 x 4” envelope with two first-class stamps. The Awards Committee meets the first Friday in June. All applicants will be informed of the status of their application by the first week of July.

To be eligible to apply for a TILF scholarship, students must have
participated in a UIL Academic State
Meet during their high school career. Participation in Athletic
or Music contests does not qualify a student to apply for a TILF scholarship.
All applicants must meet the five scholarship requirements and should consider
any additional requirements listed by the following individual donors.

Applicants must major in accounting, maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, and attend in
good standing one of the Texas universities that participate in the Accounting
Education Foundation of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, Inc.,
programs, as listed on
Schools Specified by Donors (list also appears on page four of the TILF
application). *When a recipient completes undergraduate studies in four years or
less, he/she may continue to receive the Accounting Careers Scholarship while in
graduate accounting studies. Five year accounting programs are also funded for
five years.

Lynn and Pat Murray Scholarship
$1,000 annual award, payable $500 each semester of the first year
Preference is given to The UIL State One-Act Play Contests, but all UIL State Meet participants are eligible. Candidates must attend The University of Texas at Austin and major in the Theatre Teacher Training. Recipient must plan to pursue a career in theatre as a theatre arts teacher in public schools or colleges.

Scholarships
Awards of $1,000, payable $500 each
semester of the first year, with possible renewal
Applicants must attend an accredited four-year college or university in the
state of Texas. Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

Maxine Owen Memorial Scholarship
Established and sponsored by Dan
Owen and family, in loving memory of wife and mother. Dan Owen retired as
Superintendent for the Holliday ISD and also provided 10 years of service
(1984-1994) to the UIL Legislative Council.
Award of $500, payable $250 each
semester of the first year
For students enrolled in either the Holliday or Jacksboro School Districts. Candidate must also be pursuing a career in public education.
Alvin and Lucy Owsley Foundation

Panhandle Chapter of TSCPA
Scholarships
5 awards of $500, payable $250 each
semester for up to five years
For the top five scorers in the Accounting Contest from the schools within the
25 counties that comprise the geographic area of the Panhandle Chapter of the
TSCPA. Named recipients must enroll full time as an accounting major and
maintain a minimum 3.0 college grade point average. The scholarship is limited
to one per student.

$1,000 annual award, payable $500

Applicants must have made a division rating of I or II in a solo performance at
the UIL State Solo Contest. Preference will be given to applicants majoring in
music.

For contestants in any UIL academic event who declare the intention to teach in
the public school system in Texas. Recipients must show a financial need and
maintain a 2.75 GPA while taking at least 12 hours each semester at a state
supported four-year university in Texas, or Texas Wesleyan University.
Applicants, please attach a page stating in 100 words or less why you want to
teach in the public school system, grades K-12.
Bobby Richardson Memorial Scholarship

Angelo State University
Angelo State University awards one-year UIL Scholarships to first place seniors
who win at the Region I, 4A UIL academic competition and attend Angelo State.
Those senior regional winners who win the state competition will receive another
$1,000 UIL Scholarship. Seniors ranking in the top 15% with an ACT/SAT 1 score
of 25/1140 or more may apply for one of over 300 Carr Academic Scholarships
available annually to entering freshmen. Carr Academic Scholarships range from
$2,000 to $6,000 per year and may be renewed. Contact the Carr Academic

20 $4,000 campus residential scholarships, payable $1,000 a year for four years
TAMU - Commerce will award 20, 4-year, $4,000 housing scholarship/stipends to
contestants at the UIL Academic State Meet. Applicants must rank in the top 25%,
enroll in a degree program at TAMU - Commerce, live in on-campus housing, and
must not already have a housing/ scholarship/stipend. Contact the Scholarship
