The Waltrip High School Official Dress Code

DRESS CODE FOR 2007-2008

A UNIFORM DRESS CODE HAS BEEN ADOPTED AT WALTRIP BY OUR SHARED DECISION-MAKING COMMITTEE (SDMC) TO HELP CREATE A POSITIVE AND SAFE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. THIS ENVIRONMENT WILL ALLOW STUDENTS TO FOCUS MORE ON LEARNING RATHER THAN ON THE PRESSURES OF DRESS SOMETIMES IMPOSED UPON THEM BY PEERS.

STUDENT ID BADGES are a required part of the dress code. They must be worn above the waist and visible at all times.

SHIRTS will be bright red (maroon is not acceptable), light gray, dark gray, or navy blue, polo style with a collar. Also acceptable is a dress shirt with a button-down collar in light blue Oxford material. All shirts must be tucked inside the waistband so that no midriff shows and buttoned so that no cleavage shows.

PANTS/SLACKS must be navy blue or khaki tan color; no denim/jean material and cannot be painter or cargo pants with pockets on the side of the legs. They must clear the floor, fit at the waist, and not be baggy, skin tight, ripped or frayed. Capri style pants or shorts are not allowed.

SKIRTS/JUMPERS must be navy blue or khaki tan in color, no denim or jean material. Skirts are to be no shorter than three (3) inches above the knee when standing upright or kneeling. An approved shirt must be worn with the jumper dress. No overalls or skorts are allowed.

BELTS are suggested, but not required.

SHOES must have backs or heel straps to prevent injury on the stairs. No flip-flops or house shoes are allowed.

COLD WEATHER: Students may wear a solid colored red, gray, black, or navy blue sweater (no turtle necks) or jacket over an approved shirt. Letter jackets may also be worn. No long coats below the knees or extremely large coats are allowed.

ACCESSORIES: Clothing, jewelry, or hats with profane language, references to death, violent acts, gang activities, illegal drugs, sex, or tobacco MAY NOT be worn. Tattoos with reference to items described in this paragraph may not be visible. Any jewelry deemed unsafe by a principal may not be worn, will be confiscated, and returned to a parent after meeting with the principal.

· Hair must be neat. Hair must be a natural color. No grooming devices are to be worn in the hair. Hats, caps, bandanas, do-rags, or hoods are not to be worn in the building.

· Sunglasses are not to be worn in the building except by written approval of the school nurse, after receiving a doctor’s directive to that effect.

· Students may not wear body jewelry in the nostrils, eyebrows, lip, or any other place but the ear (maximum of two [2] earrings per ear). If you have facial piercings, you must either wear a clear shunt or have them covered by a Band-Aid. Bracelets and necklaces are limited to two (2).

· Jackets, sweaters, and shirts, etc. may not be tied around the waist or neck. They must be worn appropriately, be carried, or placed in lockers. Pants cannot be rolled up above the ankle.

· All backpacks/book bags brought to school must be clear or mesh material. Sports bags may not be carried during school hours.

· Administrators will determine whether or not the dress and decorum of a student meet the standards of the school.. Any clothing article, jewelry, etc. deemed to be unsafe by an administrator will not be permitted.

Spirit Day: Every Friday is Spirit-Shirt day. Academy shirts, club shirts such as NHS or Student Council, Waltrip team shirts and senior shirts are considered spirit day shirts and may be worn on Friday only. Students must wear pants or slacks that fit within the dress code as described above. No jeans are allowed.

Students in violation of the dress code will be sent to their academy office to contact a parent or rent the appropriate clothing item. Students not able to comply with the dress code within a reasonable time will be sent to the Student Referral Center (SRC).

Código de Vestir para 2007-2008

El comité Shared Decision-Making Committee (SDMC) de la escuela ha adoptado un código de vestir para fomentar un ambiente positivo de aprendizaje. Dicho ambiente permitirá a los alumnos enfocar su atención en el aprendizaje en vez de las presiones que sus compañeros puedan imponerles por su forma de vestir.

INSIGNIAS DE IDENTIFICACIÓN son requeridas como parte del código de vestido. Deben estar visibles en todo momento. Deben ser usadas por arriba de la cintura, y visibles en todo momento.

LAS CAMISAS deben ser estilo Polo con cuello y de color rojo vivo (no están permitidas las camisas color marrón), gris claro u oscuro o azul marino. Las camisas de vestir deben tener botón en el cuello, ser de color celeste y de material tipo Oxford. Todas las camisas deben ir dentro del pantaloon de forma que no se vea el estomago. Las camisas deben estar abotonadas de forma que no se vea el escote.

LOS PANTALONES deben ser de color azul marino o caqui; no pueden ser de mezclilla, y no pueden ser de tipo "painter" ni "cargo". Los pantalones no deben tocar el piso, deben ajustarse a la cintura y no pueden ser holgados (baggy), desteñidos (frayed) ni cortados abajo. Además, deben estar hilvanados. No se pueden usar prendas ajustadas como las medias tipo Tights reemplazando a los pantalones. Shorts y overol no están permitidos.

LAS FALDAS/JARDINEROS deben ser color azul marino o caqui, no pueden ser de mezclilla, ni de jean. Las faldas no pueden ser más cortas de tres pulgadas por encima de la rodilla cuando la persona está parada o de rodillas. Los pantalones cortos usados bajo las faldas no pueden ser visibles cuando la persona camina, se agacha o se para. Se debe usar una camisa del uniforme debajo de los jardineros (jumper dress). No se permite los mamelucos (overalls) ni las falda-pantalón (skorts).

LOS CINTOS Son preferidos pero no requeridos.

LOS ZAPATOS Deben tener talón pera prevenir accidentes en las escaleras. No se pueden usar pantuflas, chancletas (flip-flops ni slippers).

DURANTE ELCLIMA FRÍO Los estudiantes pueden usar un abrigo o suéter sobre la camisa del uniforme. Se puede usar los abrigos con el nombre de la escuela (letter jackets) o el "abrigo opcional" official, con cuello en V o redondo. Las camisas del uniforme pueden usarse bajo cualquier sudadera, abrigo o chaqueta apropiada pero el cuello de la camisa debe estar visible. No está permitido usar abrigos largos o demasiado grandes: sólo pueden llegar hasta la rodilla del estudiante.

Está prohibido usar ropa, joyas o sombreros que contengan lenguaje profano ni con connotación sexual. Tampoco se permite usar prendas de vestir que contengan referencia a la muerte, a actos violentos, a pandillas, a drogas ilícitas ni al tabaco. Los tatuajes con referencias a los temas previamente mencionados no pueden ser llevados a la vista. No puede usarse ninguna joya considerada peligrosa por el director de la escuela; esta puede ser confiscada para ser entregada a los padres luego de una conferencia con el director.

· El cabello debe estar prolijo. El color del pelo debe ser natural. No se pueden usar como adornos en el cabello los artículos para acicalarse (peine, peineta, etc.). No se puede usar sombreros, gorras (caps) pañoletas (bandanas), pañuelos en la cabeza (do-rags), o capuchas (hoods).

· Esta prohibido usar anteojos para sol en la escuela excepto si se obtiene una autorización por escrito de la enfermera luego que haya sido requerido por un médico.

· No se pueden usar joyas en la nariz, las cejas, los labios ni en ninguna otra parte del cuerpo con la excepción de las orejas y con un máximo de dos aretes por lóbulo. Se permiten un máximo de dos brazaletes y collares. No se permite usar ninguna joya que tenga alguna parte con punta (stud). Si tienes perforaciones faciales deberes usar un arete transparente o una Band-Aid para cubrirlas.

· Los abrigos, suéters, camisas, etc. no pueden llevarse atados a la cintura ni al cuello. Deben usarse apropiadamente, llevarlos en la mano o dejarlos en los casilleros.

· Todas las mochillas o bolsas escolares deben se transparentes o de material tramado que permitan ver su interior. Las bolsas de deporte deben ponerse en los casilleros antes que comiencen las clases y no pueden ser llevadas de un lado o otro durante el horario escolar.

· Los directores pueden determinar que la ropa y el decoro, como en cualquier otro tema, del estudiante no cumple con las normas de la escuela. Se contactará a los padres para remediar la situación. No se permitirá ningun tipo de joyas que sean considerads inapropiadas o peligrosas. Los directores podran confiscar estas y seran entregadas a los padrdes durante una conferencia entre el alumno, los padres y uno de los directores.

Todos los viernes serán días en que los estudiantes podrán usar camisas que demuestren espiritu escolar. No esta permitido usar camisas “ hechas en casa”.
