About Richard W. Lipham: Richard W. Lipham was a 1971 graduate from Andrews High school in Andrews, Texas. In 1975 he earned a B.S. degree with a teaching certification in Industrial Arts from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. His first teaching assignment was as a metal shop teacher at Fonville Jr. High school in Houston, Texas where he remained until the spring of 1980. In 1980 he was selected as the teacher of the year. In the fall of 1980 he began teaching at S. P. Waltrip High School as a metal shop teacher. At different times over the years he has also taught wood-shop, Power/Transportation, Production Systems, Manufacturing Systems, Engineering Principles, and Research Design and Development. |
He is currently teaching Computer Applications, Engineering Principles as well as Research, Design and Development. In 2000 he was selected as the teacher of the year. He is the sponsor of the B.E.S.T. Robotics team and the M.A.T.E. Underwater Robotics team
He is a member of AHTE (The Association of Houston Technology Education). He has served as President, Vice president, Competition chairman, Constitution committee chairman, and is currently the regional contact person and data manager for the AHTE regional competition. From 1994-2000 he served as the Regional Board member to ATTE for the Houston region (4A).
He is a member of ATTE (Association of Texas Technology Education). In February 2000 he was elected as President Elect of ATTE. He served as the president of ATTE for the 2001-2002 school year. In 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006, he was the the Pre-registration Chair for their annual Conference held at Texas A&M.
He is a member of ITEA (International Technology Education Association). He is also a life long member of AFT (American Federation of Teachers)
From 1975 through 2005 he has sponsored a TSA (Technology Students Association) club and participated every year with his students in the regional contest He participated in the TSA state contest through 2004. He was the race director for the TSA State Radio Control race event for 14 years.
He was an avid user of the Texas Education Network, TENET, an online service for educators, where he was forum moderator for a newsgroup for technology teachers called: tenet.educator.industrial-tech This ended with the restructuring of TENET.
In October of 97 he completed 30 hours of Web design training with HISD and is the web master for the Waltrip high school WEB site: http://hs.houstonisd.org/waltriphs
He organized the first web site for ATTE in 1998 and was it's webmaster through 2003: http://www.atte.org
In 1998 he began training Web Masters for HISD's Department of Information Technology.
In 1999 he became a part time trainer for the HISD's Career and Technology Education Department where he was an internet trainer for CATE teachers.
