Design and Build a Structural Model

(Individual or team activity)

You will design and construct a structural model.

You must present a proposal stating the details of the project before construction may begin. (Grade)

The model must be built to scale and the scale posted on the model. (Grade)

The structure must be mounted on a suitable material to support the structure for transport. (4’X 4’ maximum)

The area around the structure must be landscaped and paved where needed.

You may pick form the following types of structures.

• Commercial building

• Bridge

• Energy generation system

• Single or multi-purpose sports stadium

• Transportation system

• Hydroelectric dam

• Alternative energy generation

• Neighborhood development master plan

• Other with permission

You will also include a research paper/presentation about your project. (Grade)

The structures can be built out of wood, balsa wood, card board, card stock, poster board, foam board, or any combination of materials suitable for building your model.

Models may contain to scale model cars, trucks, trains, airplanes and people.

Models may contain lighting or movable parts as long as they are safely designed and use no more than 12 volts DC.

You must present your project to the class. (Grade)
