Bridge Building Exercise

 

 

You are to design and construct a bridge that will span a minimum of 11 inches.

The bridge cannot be longer than 12 inches

There will be usable buttresses at both ends 10 inches apart

The bridge can extend down to use the buttresses no more that one inch below the bottom of the road bed

The inside of the bridge cannot be taller than 4 inches

The inside height of the bridge must be a minimum of 1 ¾ inches

The road bed must be a minimum of 3 inches wide with no obstructions

The bridge cannot be any wider than 6 inches (support will be 4” wide on each end)

The center of the bridge must have an opening to accept a 5/8 dowel rod for testing

The overall height of the bridge cannot exceed 6 inches

 

Materials:

 

8 sheets of 8 ½” X 14” paper

1 sheet of 8 ½” X 11” 110 lb card stock

Wood glue
