Box Crush

Objective: To have the student construct a support structure using the materials provided. This is a problem solving challenge.

Time: Three class period.

Instructions:

  1. This is an individual activity.
  2. You are planning a trip to Mars and must design a support base for a communication tower that must be built on site.
  3. You may only use the tools and materials provided for this activity.
  4. You must construct an outer structure as specified by this diagram.
  5. You may use any design for the inside supports
  6. Minimum weight acceptable for a 70 is 25lbs.
  7. Below minimum = 65
  8. Distribute the materials.
  9. You will have the remainder of the period  to construct the box.
  10. You will have a second class period to construct the inner structure.
  11. On the third class period the boxes will be tested and you will receive your evaluation.
