Activity 1B
Measurement

Objective: To have the students learn the proper use of measurement as it pertains to a standard 12" ruler. The student will add and subtract fractions dealing with a ruler as well as convert fractions to decimals. They will place proper measurements on a line with a ruler.

Time: three class periods.

Instructions:

1. PowerPoint presentation on measurement.
2. Go over how an inch was developed.
3. Have students draw inch and all of its parts
4. Work sheet on measurement
5. Period 2: Go over how to add and subtract fractions as it relates to measurement.
6. Go over converting fractions to decimals.
7. Work sheet on fractions.
8. Period 3: Finish fraction work sheet.
