Activity 1A
Paper Tower

Objective: To have the student construct a paper tower using the materials provided. This is a problem solving challenge.

Time: One class period.

Instructions:

  1. Number off the students and group them into teams of two.
  2. You are planning a trip to Mars and must design a communication tower that must be built on site.
  3. You may only use the tools and materials provided for this activity.
  4. The tower must be free standing.
  5. The tallest free standing tower gets 100 for a grade.
  6. Minimum height for a 70 is 48"
  7. Below minimum = 65
  8. Distribute the materials.
  9. You will have 30 minutes to construct the tower.
  10. Evaluation.
