The Substance Abuse Representative is responsible for assisting the campus administration with the identification and prevention of drug activities on school property. Other responsibilities include: help formulate plans, along with school administrators, to curtail illegal drug usage, and ensuring a safe drug-free, and healthy campus at Waltrip High School. Also, the representative will hold conferences with students and their parents on problems related to drugs and alcohol. The conferences may include referring students with substance abuse issues to appropriate agencies for assistance or just a solution to their problems. Assist campus administration in monitoring and documenting gang activity on campus and the community.

Waltrip High School Drug Free Schools Organization-STAND (Student Taking Action Not Drugs) is seeking new members. STAND members are involved in community events, tutor younger students in the community, and provide leadership on the campus and in the neighborhood. Once a year STAND is involved in the Annual PAL (Peer Assistance Leadership) Conference, which is held in Austin Texas.
