AP Government Summer Assignments 2007
If you intend to take AP Government next school year, during the summer you should read articles pertaining to the Government in the magazines, book and newspapers that are mentioned in the syllabus. This will help you prepare for opening discussions and debates on current government policies and issues.
SUGGESTED READINGS – Students can read any book selection they feel will given them a better understanding of the history and activities of the Government Some that are always recommended are:
Gideon’s Trumpet – Anthony Lewis
Twelve Angry Men – Reginald Rose (Probably will be in play form)
Common Sense - Thomas Paine (Actually written in 1776)
REQUIRED SUMMER READING
What Would the Founders Do? - Richard Brookhiser
It is in all bookstores at a cost of $26.00 unless you have a membership card at one of the stores. You can also check it out at the library but if you do, read it as quickly as you can and return it so others will have access to it. If you use the library’s book, be sure to take notes as you read so you will have something to refresh your memory when school starts. Be prepared for some type of exercise over the contents of the book when you start class. I also suggest you write down any questions about anything you read that you do not understand or that you wish the class to discuss.
All other information you need to know about the course is in the syllabus. Read it carefully so you will understand what the course will require of you.
