Prerequisite: 1 year of Automotive Services §125.5. Automotive Services. (a) General requirements. Automotive services include knowledge of the function of the major automotive systems and the principles of diagnosing and servicing these systems. The courses in this category may be offered in Grades 9-12. Following are the courses that can be included in this category with the units of credit that students may be awarded for successful completion of each course: Introduction to Transportation Service
Careers (one-half to one credit), (b) Introduction. Rapid advances in technology have created new career opportunities and demands in trades and industries. Trade and industrial education provides the knowledge, skills, and technologies required for employment in transportation systems. Students need to develop knowledge of the concepts and skills related to this system in order to apply them to personal/career development. Trade and industrial education depends on and supports integration of academic and career and technology knowledge and skills. To prepare for success, students must have opportunities to reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills to a variety of settings and problems. Knowledge about career opportunities, requirements, and expectations and the development of workplace skills prepare students for success. |

Students must take Intro to Automotive before being eligible for the regular Automotive Program. During the first year students will do job shadow in a minimum f three automotive dealerships or independent repair shops. They will also be interviewed by a committee of dealers/ independent repair shop service managers/ owners for the eligibility into the AYES Program (Automotive Youth Education Services). If accepted, the student will be placed with a tech mentor into a paid internship in automotive dealerships during the summer of their junior and senior year. Upon completion, the students will be eligible to sit for the ASE exam with the possibility of being sponsored by other dealerships for further training. Our program is NATEF certified in four areas: brakes, engine performance, electrical, and steering suspension. The instructor is ASE certified. We are the second school to acquire AYES program in H.I.S.D. |
