Who is in charge of the 89 class reunion? The Cadillac Bar is available May 23 - private room for 200 at $425, cash bar and fajitas at $16 per person... who do I call or who can I help? Reply: Your class President is responsible for organizing your class reunion. For 89 that would be Ricky Martin. If you have any contact information on him, please forward it on to me so I can post it. A lot of his classmates are looking for him.

How do we go about getting a reunion started with class of 89? apparently Ricky Martin cant get it together for us. Someone please help class of 89! Reply: There is a company called Reunions.com that will set up and plan the whole thing for your class. Obviously they charge for it.

This makes absolutely no sense that we have not planned anything and now its the last minute. I visited SP Waltrip today and asked if they had any information and they looked at me like I was a space alien. Let's get on the same page and stop looking for Ricky Martin. Reply: As odd as it sounds, high Schools are not involved in planning reunions. It is the class president's responsibility to plan it. Anyone can plan one, all you have to do is organize, find a place to hold it, and host it. Sometimes we as teachers are invited to a class reunion, but that is rare. Most large schools have an alumni association that helps with the reunions, but sadly Waltrip does not have one. Some of the alumni associations even have an office on the school campus, but most do not and are not in any way connected to the school; they are independent associations run by former students.
Hello All: We are holding a Waltrip Reunion (all grades welcome though we mostly expect folks from 1978-1982)!!! Where: Lodge #88, 1435 Beall St, 77008 When: Friday May 29, 2009 from 8:00p to Midnight Who: 30-Year Reunion for Class of 1979 PLUS a great chance for the rest of us to meet, great and reconnect! Tickets will be $10 and will be sold at the door only. We will provide some loud music (appropriate because we are all deaf by now) and some snacks but the primary goal is for us to see friends we have not seen in months or years or decades! Please join us and please help us get the word out to others.

I saw on facebook (posted by Tina Hall Sowell) that an informal reunion for WHS class of 1987-1992 is planned on May 30th at Dave & Buster's (I-10 and Silber).

Well from what I have seen they both are. The one at D&B was something some people were trying to put together, kinda unofficial. I just heard about the one in Sept on sun 4/26. which is suppose to be the official one, but who knows. RIP to Mr.Patrick Swayze a Houston native and Waltrip alumni.
OMG......Patrick Swayze has passed away today @ age 57. How very, very sad. My condolences to all his family, Donnie and Bambi and Lisa. Rest in my dear friend. I'll always remember you Buddy. Sorry I wrecked your pops truck that night. I told Lee Lawrence (aka Moose) and Lee Carrillo (aka LC), that I didn't really know how to drive. They were too drunk to care! And Donnie was passed out and the back. So he wasn't any help! God was your pops hot at us! Those were the best of times. Before you were famous. And just plain ol' Buddy to everyone! Love ya man
RIP Patrick Swayze. You faced it on YOUR terms!
My thoughts and prayers go out to Donnie and the rest of the Swayze family. Patrick put up a good fight. He will greatly be missed.
I hope all the Waltrip Alumni take a moment to remember Patrick Swayze a former Waltrip Alumnus who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer today. He fought a brave battle.

Sad news to
report. Monday October 5, 2009 Vance Gabryszwski died of a heart
attack. He was 38 and a 1991 graduate of Waltrip High School. He
leaves behind a wife,
Janelle,
that also graduated from Waltrip and two young children. Vance was
the kid that spent countless hours driving the tractor for the
athletic department. He could fix anything and often did. He was one
of my best metal shop students. Coach Zuke and I have both
maintained a close relationship to Vance and his family. I have
included a photo I took of them about three weeks at their house in
Garden Oaks. Please keep his family in your prayers. Mr. Lipham |
