Sterling High School
A Day At The Airshow
Friday October 5th marked the 23rd annual Wings Over Houston Air Show and a memorable educational experience for the Ross Shaw Sterling Aviation students. The magnet program, consisting of 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders, was able to observe the aircraft they studied in flight. Students were even able to see World War II fighter planes such as the P-51 Mustang and even a flying lawnmower! A Re-Max hot air balloon, although unable to fly due to low ceiling conditions, was also present, towering over 40 feet in the air. Students were also able to wave to the pilots as they taxied onto the runway in powerful F-16 fighter jets. The sounds were a little much for the audience, but the students greatly urged for more. Of all the spectacular attractions, the most exciting that just about every student agrees on, was the re-enactment of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, presented by the Tora Tora Squad. Using amazing pyro-techniques, Wings Over Houston gave these students a show they will never forget.
