Sterling High School is currently in partnership with Flying Tigers flight school
and is working with Sterling to provide a safe, effective, and positive flying environment for interested
students. The flight school is conveniently located on the west side of Ellington Field and has five
superb Grumman AA-5A Cheetahs the students may fly. The airport has long paved runways with dedicated
and courteous air traffic contollers that provide the students with a safe and accomodating flying
environment. The new airport is very pleasing to fly in and out of and all the students are showing their satisfaction!
The aircraft the students fly are Grumman American AA-5A Cheetahs. These four-place, single engine aircraft
seat two pilots comfortably and cruise at a speed of around 120 kts(138 MPH).Good fuel burn and high cruise
speed allows for longer flights between fill-ups. GPS is a luxury in almost all planes along with great leg room
and great view. Although over 30 years old, these aircraft look new and are maintained by two full time
mechanics to make sure they comply with all regulations.

Ellington Field(KEFD)
Ellington field is located approximately 10 miles southeast of William P. Hobby Airport. Class D airspace equates to
less traffic and more learning. 9000 foot runways not only accomodate the largest military aircraft operating in
and out daily, but are large enough for new pilots to land on. Mostly ex-military controllers are well informed
and do their best to provide training aircraft with a sense of safety and confidence.
