WELCOME TO THE  BIGGEST WINNER  CHALLENGE

The goal of The Biggest Winner Challenge is to help you make lifestyle changes and create a healthier YOU!

¡        Everyday you track = 1 point
¡        8 glasses = 1 point
¡        Every 30 minutes of exercise = 1 point
¡        Every 10,000 steps = 1 point
¡        Attending Class = 5 points
¡        Extra points = 1 a day 
¡        % Body Fat lost = 10 points
¡        Inch lost = 10 points
¡        Pound lost = 10 points
¡        Completing the Competition = 10 points
 
All of your food and exercise logs must be turned into me each Wednesday at class or outside my office door (Nurse’s Office) by 3:30. They can be emailed to me as well. (stewart.schaefer@healthcorps.net)

Food Diary

You can track on paper or on www.dailyplate.com

¡        Everyday you track = 1 point

¡        www.dailyplate.com

§         Gives you calories you need to maintain/lose weight

§         (based on weight, age, sex, & activity level)

§         Keeps track of all your food and beverages

¡        Tracks your water intake (8 glasses = 1 point) 

Exercise Diary 

¡        Track your exercise on The Daily Plate, or on paper.

¡        Every 30 minutes of exercise = 1 point

¡        Every 10,000 steps = 1 point

¡        We will have optional group exercises too. (More details to come) 

Classes
¡       
Attending Class = 5 points
¡       
You will also get food, door prizes, and free information from a dietitian!
¡       
If you cannot attend the class due to your schedule you can view the PowerPoint that will be sent to you and complete an assignment to get your points
¡       
The classes will be during A and B lunch on Thursdays. (Location will be announced) 

Extra Points

            Extra points will be given each week throughout the competition. Below is a list of extra points for each week. How you get the extra point changes every Wednesday.

 

¡        Week of February 15th - Eat breakfast!

¡        Week of February 22nd - Eating 2 servings of fruit a day

¡        Week of March 1st  - Eating 2 servings of vegetables a day

¡        Week of March 8th - Eating 2 servings of fruit a day

¡        Week of March 15th (Yes, you’re still accountable during spring break) – Sleep 8 hours

o        Weight, BMI, and Waist Will not be recorded during this break

¡        Week of March 22nd - Eating 2 servings of vegetables a day

¡        Week of March 29th - Do a stress reliever each day

How do I win you ask?  Good question!  Biggest Winner Challenge is a point based competition determined by:

ü      Percentage of weight and body fat lost

ü      Decrease in waist circumference

v     Get extra points by…

§         Attending weekly classes

§         Keeping a food diary and activity record

What can I win you ask?  Even better question, so let’s get to the good stuff! 

ü      All participants receive Gift Bags worth $10 upon weigh-in and free counseling from a dietitian!

ü      Door Prizes to be raffled off during weekly classes!

ü      Overall $Cash$ Grand Prizes for the top three finishers! – Cash prize dependent on # of entries.

ü      Grand Prize is a healthier YOU!

Where and when do I sign up?  Now you’re talkin’!  Just stop by the Staff Sign-In sheet before February 19th to register! Drop your registration and registration fee off here. I cannot accept registration after February 19th.  When you sign-up you will sign-up for your baseline measurements with Stew. Open slots for weigh in will be February 18th, 19th, and 22nd in the Nurse’s Office. You must sign up for a time slot, walk-in’s will not be accepted.

WHAT IS HEALTHCORPS?
HealthCorps is a holistic, school-based health education program designed to promote health and wellness at Sharpstown HS and the surrounding community. HealthCorps provides the knowledge, tools, and support to help students and families make healthy decisions in their everyday lives.  

WHAT IS A HEALTHCOPRS COORDINATOR?
My name is Stewart Schaefer and I am Sharpstown’s HealthCorps Coordinator. I teach hands-on, engaging health lessons, promote health in the cafeteria and afterschool, and plan school and community health events. “Health is not just about the individual, but the community.” I hope to reach out to as many students as I can throughout the next two school years. 

HEALTHCORPS’ HEALTH AND WELLNESS CLUB
Want to get fit and active? Want to meet new people doing it? The Health and Wellness Club offers FREE activities such as instructor-led yoga, zumba, dance, noncompetitive sports, and cooking lessons!

When: Thursdays @ 4:30
