| Greg Meyers was
elected to the Board of Education in
2004 and elected by his peers to the
position of assistant secretary in 2006
and second vice president in 2007. He
presently serves as a legislative
liaison for the board. In his first year
of service, he was appointed to chair
the Board Monitoring Committee, which
developed an expanded system for
district accountability that was adopted
as policy in August 2005. The Board
Monitoring System measures the
district’s progress toward meeting goals
and visions, and, of special
significance, it makes this progress
fully available to the public.
Meyers is active in many
areas of community service. He is the
Boy Scouts of America’s honorary
chairman of the Scout Fair, a past
chairman of the board of directors of
the Houston West Chamber of Commerce,
and a former chairman of the
governmental affairs committee as well
as a board member of the Joint
City/County Commission on Children. He
has received the HISD Apple Pin Award
for extraordinary service to schools. He
has served on his neighborhood
association board, coached soccer and
baseball, and served as a Cub Scout den
leader.
In 1999, after 12
years in the dental-products industry,
Meyers founded his own company, which
currently works with more than 160
representatives and 8,000 dentists in
three states. Meyers earned a bachelor
of business administration degree from
Texas A&M University, with a double
major in management and marketing, and a
master of business administration degree
from St. Mary's University, with an
emphasis in finance.
The son of an Air
Force veteran, he grew up in several
cities in the U.S., as well as in
Okinawa, Japan. A Houstonian since the
age of 15, he has developed a tremendous
pride in and an understanding of the
diversity and people that make Houston
great.
Meyers and his wife
Sandie attend Grace Presbyterian Church.
They have two sons, both of whom attend
HISD schools. |
