Dear Parent/Guardian and Student,

Reagan is pleased to announce that we will be offering students the opportunity to recover up to 2 and ˝ credits during 2009 Summer School.    Specific program requirements and policies are outlined below.

Please read the information carefully, sign and return this agreement with the application to Ms. Payne in A120 before May 15, 2009 to confirm your child's summer school enrollment.  The application process is not complete without both documents.

Student Responsibilities

  • Arrive on time to school and to each class every day

  • Be alert and responsive in your classes

  • Complete assignments as directed

  • Be respectful of teachers, staff, and classmates

  •  Follow the HISD Code of Conduct and the Reagan Summer School Policies and Procedures

Parent Responsibilities

  • Provide the school with a working telephone number where you can be reached at all times between the hours of 8:00am and 3:00pm

  • Be available to pick up your child if he/she is not dressed appropriately, is dismissed from summer school due to absences or behavior, or becomes ill during school

  • Make sure your child arrives on time in the morning and leaves at 2:30.  Students may remain on campus only if they are staying for pre-approved tutorials or the 21st Century Program

School Responsibilities

  • We will provide a quality summer school curriculum for each student

  • We will provide the opportunity for each student to recover up to 2.5 credits

  • We will provide breakfast and lunch at no charge to every student

  • We will provide a positive environment to insure student success

POLICIES

Attendance

On the third absence from any class the student will not be able to meet the completion requirements for the summer school courses and may be removed from the summer school roster for that class.  The absences begin on the first day of summer school, June 4, 2009. 

Tardies

Tardy students cause disruption to the instructional process. Unexcused and/or chronic tardies may be cause for removal from that class.

Discipline

  • In order to ensure an orderly and successful learning environment, please make sure your child adheres to the following guidelines:

  • Students must come to school in appropriate dress each day. (See dress code attached.)

  • Electronic devices such as headphones, IPODS, MP3’s, may be used before and after school and during lunch.  Those devices must be off and stored during the rest of the school day. 

  • Cell phones may be brought to school (per district policy), but must be TURNED OFF and out of sight at ALL TIMES except before and after school and during lunch. 

  • Students must wear a Reagan ID badge at all times. 

  • Student must not be referred to the principal’s office more than once—students will be allowed one referral for Level I offenses according to the HISD Code of Student Conduct—students will be dismissed from summer school for any Level II, III, or IV offense as outlined in the HISD Code of Student Conduct.

Student Schedules

Your child will receive a tentative class schedule before the last day of school.  Changes may be made to his/her class schedule as final grades for the semester are posted.    Students dismissed early will not be permitted to loiter on the campus. 

Breakfast/Lunch

Your child will be served a free breakfast and lunch daily during summer school. Parents/friends will NOT be permitted to bring food to the campus during breakfast or lunch.  Students will NOT be permitted to leave campus during breakfast or lunch for any reason.

Transportation

HISD does not provide transportation for Title I, Part A Summer School

2009  Summer School Dress Code

TOPS

·         Shirts must be maroon or white Reagan uniform shirts, uniform  tee shirts, or white or maroon solid collared shirts.  Undershirts must be white, maroon, black, or gray.

·      Shirts may be long- or short-sleeved, but sleeveless shirts are not allowed.

·         Shirts must be long enough so that no skin is exposed around the stomach, but may not be oversized or too tight.  Shirts should not be low cut.

BOTTOMS

  • Black, khaki, or blue jean pants (or skirts), may be worn 

  • Pants and skirts must be knee length or longer

  •  All pants and skirts should be fitted properly and be appropriately sized

  • Please make sure pants and skirts are hemmed or cuffed

  • No sweats, jogging pants, warm-up pants, spandex, biking shorts, leggings, stirrups or stretch pants are allowed

HEADWEAR

  • Hats, caps, and /or head coverings of any kind are not to be worn during the instructional day.  All such items must be put away before entering campus grounds.  Bandanas are not allowed on campus.

   OTHER

  • Student ID Badges must be worn and visible at all times.   Students will be provided with an ID badge if they do not have one.  Should that badge be lost or damaged, the student must replace it at his/her own expense.

 Infractions of the dress code are subject to discipline techniques as outlined in the HISD Student Code of Conduct.
