HISD Network Security Policies

 

Obtaining Network Login and Password

  • New employees and rehires will automatically be processed by the Security Department.
  • Terminated and retired employees will automatically be removed by the Security Department.
  • Transfers, title and name changes processed through Human Resources are completed automatically. Transfers will receive basic network access; no assumptions are made regarding additional access.

Pass access to Level 2, 3,4 or AS400 access should be requested using HISD Network Security form, found by accessing the Reagan INTRANET. Requesters will receive higher level access if approved by the principal

Security Violations - E-mail

Harassment  E-mailing threatening, unsolicited, obnoxious, or sexually explicit messages and persistently e-mailing unsolicited messages to others after being asked to stop are forms of harassment, and is not allowed.

Mass Mailings/Junk E-mail aka SPAM  Sending uninvited e-mail to large number of strangers. i.e. Commercial advertisements, surveys, questionnaires are not allowed.

Chain Mail  Chain mail messages are sent to several people, including forwarding instructions to several people. Do not propagate.

Order of Network ID and E-mail Offenses

Violation Offense: Correspondence Memo sent to violator's supervisor/principal advising the supervisor/principal to confer with the violator to reiterate HISD's expectations of the Network user.

2nd Violation Offense: Correspondence Memo is sent to the violator and the supervisor/principal. The user must authorize this 2nd Violation Offense letter. The Technology department will receive a copy of the authorized violation letter.

3rd Violation Offense: The Auditing department is notified. A recommendation for termination of the violator is presented to the HISD Board.

Privacy - Passwords

  • Do not share passwords with anyone.
  • There is to be no exchanging of passwords among supervisors and subordinates.
  • Revise your password periodically to maintain its integrity.
