School name:  Reagan High School

Robert Pambello, Principal

Administrative District:  Central Administrative Region

School Overview

Reagan High School has an enrollment of 1730 students in grades 9-12. Eighty-seven point four (87.4) percent of the student population is Hispanic, 5.0 percent White, 7.0 percent African American and 1.0 percent Asian. Reagan is divided into five small learning communities which are called academies. These academies include: Business Technology, Engineering and Architectural Design, Fine Arts, Health Science and Computer Technology Magnet. The five academies provide a more personalized and integrated educational experience, which addresses the guiding principles of the HISD Schools for a New Society initiative.

Located in the historic Heights neighborhood near downtown Houston, Reagan High School has a strong tradition of active collaboration with community and corporate partners in an effort to improve student achievement.  During the past six years, faculty and staff at Reagan have worked diligently to identify and implement an effective model of high school reform. Three essential and critical elements of this reform effort have been restructuring, reorganizing and re-culturing of the school environment.  The five academies provide a more personalized and integrated educational experience, which will address the guiding principles of the HISD Schools for a New Society initiative.

As a comprehensive high school, Reagan provides a variety of opportunities for student success. The nationally ranked JROTC program offers students opportunities to build character, discipline and citizenship.   The Career and Technology Education (CATE) department empowers students with rigorous, globally competitive technical and academic skills. Reagan has gained distinction as the only HISD school to offer an Academy of Finance. Reagan students currently participate in a Fine Arts program that includes choir, dance, visual and theater arts as well as an array of musical opportunities including mariachi. Through the athletic department, a broad spectrum of sports for males and females is offered including football, volleyball, baseball, golf, soccer, wrestling, swimming and tennis. Reagan students also have the opportunity to participate in the Student Voice action team which has a direct dialogue with the principal and proposes school-wide policies.
