Reagan HS has a policy of open enrollment for Pre AP/AP classes. We count on parents and students to be judicious in selecting advanced classes. Students must turn in a Pre AP/AP Entrance Agreement Form to take advanced classes. Your student may take all the advanced classes for which he/she has the prerequisite and for which you feel he/she is qualified. There are certain caveats outlined on the form and some listed below that should be heeded. Parents, along with their students, should consider the following questions and implications as they review their student’s schedule and performance.

The purpose of the AP Human Geography course is to introduce students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface. Students employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine human social organization and environmental consequences. They also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their science and practice. On successful completion of the course, students should have developed skills that enable them to: use and think about maps and spatial data, understand and interpret the implications of associations among phenomena in places, recognize and interpret at different scales, the relationships among patterns and processes, define regions and evaluate the regionalization process, and characterize and analyze changing interconnections among places.

AP ART
HISTORY
Grade: 10-12
Prerequisite:Instructor Signature(s) required
AP Art History is designed to provide the same benefits to high school students as those provided by an introductory college course in art history. In the course, students examine major forms of artistic expression from the ancient world to the present and from a variety of cultures. They learn to look and analyze works of art within their historical context, and to articulate what they see or experience in a meaningful way. A meaningful way to experience works of art is learning to frame an understanding that relates how and why works of art communicate visual meaning.
It is
highly recommended that students take at least one year of Art
and/or AP World/European History. The student must be commited to
studying artwork, reading assignments, summer work and independent
research to insure their level of success in class.

The AP Studio Art portfolios are designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art. AP Studio Art is not based on a written examination; instead, students submit portfolios for evaluation at the end of the school year.
The AP Program offers three portfolios: Drawing, 2-D Design, and 3-D Design. The portfolios share a basic, three-section structure, which requires the student to show a fundamental competence and range of understanding in visual concerns (and methods). Each of the portfolios asks the student to demonstrate a depth of investigation and process of discovery through the concentration section (Section II). In the breadth section (Section III), the student is asked to demonstrate a serious grounding in visual principles and material techniques. The quality section (Section I) permits the student to select the works that best exhibit a synthesis of form, technique, and content.
It is highly recommended that students take at least 2-3 years of Art classes. The student must be committed and highly disciplined to succeed in class, with the ability to work independently. Student will choose the approach that they use in the portfolio, in regard to subject matter and medium.
