Attendance: ADA / Student Referrals

 Official ADA attendance time is 10:10 a.m. (during second period).

 With regards to student referrals, please adhere to the following stipulations and directions.

 ·        The second period teachers are assigned ADA responsibility for student attendance.  The ADA teacher (second period) initiates parent contact when a student has three or more consecutive absences.  The ADA teacher is to submit to the Attendance Office the student name, I.D., and grade level of students that need a referral.  At this time, an official referral will be submitted to the Attendance Specialist. 

 ·        The Attendance Specialist will document the findings on a referral form and send a status report to the Attendance Office.  The Attendance Office will give a copy of this report to the ADA teacher and the assistant principal.

 ·        ADA teachers are to monitor absenteeism and submit additional referrals when students fail to attend school regularly.  You MUST document the parent contact and the results of this contact. 

 ·        It is not necessary to wait until a student has missed three consecutive days to request a referral.  It is important to notice patterns of irregular attendance (i.e., absent Mondays and Fridays, every other day, one day a week, etc.) and refer these students early so that proper action can be taken.

 ·        Skipping class are discipline problems that will be handled both in-house and with the assistance of the Attendance Specialist.

 Procedures for taking attendance for Field Trips

 ·        The Attendance Office will provide forms for your convenience to use when taking a field trip that will affect second period attendance.  Please send a copy of this form to that attendance office at least 24 hours in advance.  The message should include the destination, date, and time range.

 ·        As the students are boarding the bus, please take attendance and mark “AB” (for absent) by the name of those who do not actually attend.  Please send the marked list to the Attendance Office with a student before your bus leaves.
