Transformation Reagan
A Model For Renovation

The purpose of the Transformation Reagan is to recreate Reagan High School as a high achieving public urban 21st century high school. This unified focus on students' learning prepares them to successfully take the next step in life.  Parents, faculty and community members work together to support high levels of student success.

In order to foster shared leadership, Reagan staff created 6 committees based on key issues that would impact the manner in which Reagan High School was restructured, reorganized and re-cultured.  The following committees are composed and lead by teachers who are at the forefront of our reform:

In 2002, we engaged all stakeholders in a conversation around visioning for our future. As a learning community we created a vision that powerfully focuses and defines our mission at RHS.

Two project coordinators work to ensure that the Reagan Administration, Staff, Students, Parents, community leaders and business partners have a voice in the design and implementation of Transformation Reagan.

·        The Professional Development Action Team offers training opportunities to our faculty on and off campus. The implementation of the "professional period" before school has been an experiment in capturing time within our school day to focus on topics of need, which were identified by teachers during the summer.

·        The Climate Action Team focuses on creating an atmosphere of community for all stakeholders involved with Reagan High School. The Climate Team works to strengthen relationships with individuals and organizations within the community and will create and implement a marketing plan for RHS.

·        The School Organization Action Team focuses on creating a personalized learning environment for students through the 9th grade and 10th grade society (or team) system and through implementation of five career academies for the 11th and 12th grades that will begin in the 2002-2003 school year. The five career academies are Health Occupations, Fine Arts, Computer Technology, Business Technology and Engineering/Industrial Arts.

·       The Curriculum and Instruction Action Team focuses on the creation of curriculum for the five career academies, which will offer students real-world options during their high school career and in the future. With the assistance of the Co-Nect Facilitator the Curriculum and Instruction Team will offer professional development focused on project-based learning and student-centered instruction.

·        The Facilities and Technology Action Teams develop systems that will support a personalized, 21st century educational environment for all students at Reagan High School. The Facilities Team partners with the American Institute of Architects and the Heights Association to complete the process that will result in a master plan for renovating Reagan High School.
