Federal Programs
The campus receives federal and state funds for courses and staff aimed at preparing students for the workforce. Students discuss areas of interest and aptitudes are checked prior to acceptance into a coherent sequence of courses in any specialized area. These concentrations help many students see the relevance of high school studies and often improve their academic record as well as keep them enrolled in pubic school longer. Free/Reduced-Price MealsResearch has shown that students who have their nutritional needs met are able to more easily concentrate on their school work, have better health and attendance records, and demonstrate more stable emotional patterns. Those who qualify as economically disadvantaged need to complete and application and become qualified to receive breakfast and lunch service for a reduced price or free of charge. Limited English Proficient (LEP) The campus English-As-A-Second-Language (ESL) program offers intensive instruction in English through the use of second language methodologies designed to develop proficiency in the comprehension, speaking, reading and composition of the English language while regular course contents are also taught the primary language. A Home Language Survey, specialized testing and the determinations of the campus Limited Proficiency Advisory Committee (LPAC) structure the student’s individual plan for scheduling on an annual basis. Prior to exiting from the program, students are scheduled into “regular” classes and the support of these teachers is vital to their success. Special EducationServices are offered to students who have qualified by virtue them having one or more handicapping conditions as specified in federal guidelines. Learning disabled (LD), emotionally disturbed (ED), speech impaired (SI), hearing impaired (HI), or other health impaired (OHI) are some of the more common labels carried by our special education students. RHS provides Content Mastery assistance for those students whose individualized education plan (IEP) state that they will need assistance outside of the regular classroom. RHS also offers resource classes for students who are further behind. Behavior Adjustment Class (BAC) is offered for students who have social control difficulties.
